Hi, patiently waiting to become patient šŸ„
    #27077814 - 12/07/20 08:39 PM (3 years, 1 month ago)

More than half a lifetime ago an acquaintance gave me a three-ring binder of about 100 photocopied typewritten pages describing p. cubensis cultivation techniques. The pages actually seemed to have been originally mimeographed.

The instructions described concepts and gave a few specific techniques.

I inoculated three or four pint-or-quart jars of brown rice with dist from bag shrooms and one of them took. After one particular shake, the jar seemed to stall and black mold showed up here and there. So I gave up and buried a clump in my largest potted plant. Shortly after, low and behold, a single tiny mushroom appeared, less than half an inch high. Pin?

I'm trying again with Uncle Ben Tek using spore syringes of B+, Golden Teacher and "Brazil" from a sponsor. Thanks! I thik I will have questions.

I didn't use a hood but did 21 bags hoping something would take. I'm 60% interested cubensis and understand they are among the easiest to cultivate so am starting with that. It's hard not to order a bunch more strains and species right away though! I am not a patient person which is one of the reasons I am noodling around with this hobby.

The reward of learning to be patient is patience.

No - long gone. Does the description seem familiar? This was somewhere in 1989-1991.

I’m not familiar with it, but I’m sure many around here would be interested in it.

I've learned I have a lot to learn! The model of sterility in my head was from brewing and pickling. Mycology is an entirely different level! I need to clean my whole place, normally I don't mind dust.

For now, I'm trying not to think about anything but agar using grocery store mushrooms and what was left from the three MSS syringes I had. I'm half-heartedly trying to use a seralite box with an opening hanging over a table as a SAB. The plastic won't melt from a hot can as I saw someone do.

When I get a plate of an isolated mycelium the rest seems more downhill.

I also started some PF cakes with water I drew into the "empty" MSSs. White fuzz started growing in one jar two days ago. Today is day six and there is growth (of something!) in more than half of the 8 inoculation points I put in those two jars.

I got poor marks for "follows directions well" in primary school so I'm kind of trudging along.

Things that surprised me I just learned this week:

- You always want to seal your petri dishes or keep them in a bag. You can't just rest the top on, it will get contaminated.

- The reason you don't need a pressure cooker for brown rice flour cakes is the particles of nutrition that BRF provide are so small you don't need a deep penetrating heat to kill the baddies. And the contaminants that tend to be in rice are more easily killed without a PC than other popular grains.

Yeah, I'm planning on using shoeboxes for LAGM2021.

Unless someone stole it, a PC from eBay should be sitting downstairs but I wanted to see if I could do PF Tek w/o one in the mean time.

Ouch. Try local places like goodwill or yard sales or craigslist
