First fruits, are these contaminated? Still useful?
    #27077702 - 12/07/20 07:42 PM (3 years, 1 month ago)

Hi,

First-timer here, using PF TEK. I had a bout of what I was told was trich in several cakes; cut away the greenish section of cakes, which had a greenish miniscule layer all around but was white mycelium inside. I salted the wounds and allowed the remaining portions to continue their progress.

Some of the  caps have a dusty white patch on the top while others don't. The stems aren't slimy, but instead are firm and rather dry.

I included several pics ...

The obvious question: How do these guys look? Contaminated or edible (although, of course, I would never eat these, they're for research purposes only).

Thanks so much for taking the time to help a nascent mycologist.

From what I can tell they look good. Dry, but good. IIRC I read somewhere that said stems turning blue during a grow is because they're bruising from drying out and the white on top of the cap is just Myc from when they were pinning.

I'd wait for someone with more experience than me to chime in. That's just my $0.02

Cheers, mate!

It's just bruising, not trich.  If there were trich on the bases of the fruits, the fruits would have rotted away from the cake before it could get that far.

Looking good for a first try.  Next time you can use smaller pieces of aluminum foil to set the cakes on.  This will increase the humid air passing along the sides of the cake and help with pinning.

Looking decent! I don't see anything to worry about, they look fit to be eaten (or subjected to whatever mad scientist experiment you are considering )
