Is THC really that different after “heavy” psychedelic usage?
    #27077276 - 12/07/20 02:57 PM (3 years, 1 month ago)

So I didn’t smoke for the last two years bc I couldn’t, and did LSD quite often and mushrooms quite often earlier this year. I’m about to start smoking and really slow down on psychedelics. I’ll only be smoking flower at first, I was able to get my hands on some lower quality weed to start out with and then use the potent stuff I have.

I’m hoping that I can build somewhat of a tolerance, which I feel is needed to enjoy weed (for me atleast) and not feel like you’re blasting off and have a racing heart. I know there’s another post regarding this, but this is geared towards after using psychedelics.

Cannabis does intensify the trip, just smoke a little bit of bud and see how you react before taking a full bong rip or something.
If I have a smoke during trip the effects get stronger for a brief period but if you have no tolerance then it could last alot longer

From personal experience: Temporarily.

More specifically, weed felt significantly different when used soon after a mushroom experience. But whatever that difference was did not persist and weed always went back to its familiarity the more time I had not indulged in mushrooms.

So it seems, similar to how a big dose can give a long lasting afterglow, it seems a larger dose can change persisting perception enough to make weed, if done within the "afterglow" window, seem different.

But it isn't the weed but your perception that has changed. And this seems temporary.

Just my experience.

I may have worded that poorly. I meant how weed feels when you smoke casually, NOT while on psychedelics. Just say you use them regularly or whatever, and then you smoke weed one day... I’ve read it feels different. I Havnt had the chance to die to drug tests but those end in 11 days.

On the topic of smoking WHILE ON psychedelics, I love it. Without a tolerance I’ve damn near blasted off from it.. I personally think there’s something lacking from a trip when I can’t smoke. It doesn’t feel as immersive to me, and taking more LSD or whatever doesn’t make it fuller for me like weed does/did.

Personally, Cannabis was never the same for me after my Ayahuasca excursion. I hit the Aya pretty hard, daily/near daily for 4 years straight, and was an all day everyday Cannabis smoker beforehand during, and after my excursion. For the about a year or so Cannabis would make me feel like i was coming up on DMT which was unsettling lol, and it would tap me into Aya-space, giving me pretty much the same perception i get while on Aya. I kept smoking it but the residual Aya feelings never went away but it did stop feeling like i was coming up on DMT. Anytime i'd take mushrooms or 4-ACO or LSD or Aya, Cannabis would bring back similar feelings/effects/perceptions. Heck i had Cannabis-induced HPPD for a few good weeks after an LSD trip one time, like visual distortions and glitching, but only happened when i used Cannabis and didn't when i was sober so the Cannabis definitely induced it.

Earlier this year i decided to quit Cannabis because it wasn't beneficial anymore and was more detrimental, i had been wanting to quit Cannabis for a good long while but didn't really have the motivation to do so until this year. After a few months being away, i tested the Cannabis out again a few times but it still made me very uncomfortable and awkward and anxious/paranoid and was still quite trippy, so i had/have no desire to get back to it. Although, i have since found Delta-8-THC, and the last few months i've been vaping on that and it's been doing me a lot better than Cannabis, more clearheaded, no anxiety or paranoia, pretty functional, and i've noticed if i consume Delta 8 and then consume Cannabis, the Delta 8 seems to dominate and thus gives me more anxiety/paranoia-free and clearheaded effects so it seems to change the tone of Cannabis for me. But i've only smoked Cannabis in the last few months like maybe 3 times, with that Delta 8 being in my system, and while i can't say for sure, i do think the Delta 8 being in the mix gives me a better response to Delta 9, but so long as i have Delta 8, i have no need for Delta 9 since Delta 8 gives me the same benefits that Delta 9 does but without the undesirable/negative effects.

But overall, yes Cannabis can and does change after heavy Psychedelic experimentation, for some people it can be changed forever because you're changed, whereas for other people things can go back to normal. But one thing is for sure, Cannabis deserves respect and in a way is a Psychedelic itself, or is capable of being one, so dosage, set and setting can no doubt play a big role in it's effects and the experiences it provides.

I think since those who have done psychedelics enough to know what they’re expecting, and understand the headspace quite well and then they smoke... there’s like some correlation in your mind where the cannabis influences your perception to kind of be dragged into psychedelic world. Idk how to word it and obviously I Havnt smoked since I’ve used psychedelics heavily so I’ll find out.

I want to use cannabis to get me off these other substances like kratom bc I have trouble staying sober. THC is so introspective and something so beneficial about it, it’s sustainable up to a point too. I just need it right now. I hope it works

I don’t really get high from smoking pot any more since using psychedelics regularly.  Dabs, bong rips, smoke a whole blunt to myself it doesn’t really do a whole lot unless I take a very large dose of edibles.

I don't notice this, although perhaps the true (mild) psychedelic effects of cannabis are heightened.  I.e. it seems to go further towards the psychedelic realm for me.  But that is comparing what it was before mushrooms (a long time back) with what it is now after a whole lot of mushrooms, and the weed itself has improved considerably since then.  :laugh2:

This is an awesome post right here.

It's almost like cannabis is an "anchor" once you've gone far enough. It reminds your receptors what's possible, almost like psychedelic PTSD in a sense lol. Aya every single day for 4 years sounds intense AF to me I wasn't aware it'd still have any effect via daily use...?

Weed and shrooms pair together like champagne and bleu cheese.

They enhance each other immeasurably

Weed is more intense the day after a trip (for me). Like above it normalizes very rapidly and If you haven't tripped in a few days the effect should be normal for you too.

After tripping weekly for 8 weeks I can say for sure weed kind of puts me back into that mushroom headspace. I like to combine it with a playlist only listen to on trips as well sometimes  I saw a wave ripple across the wall on weed alone while I was meditating and listening to the trip playlist. Feels so similar to a low(maybe not micro) mushy dose.
High THC just gives me the exact same anxiety/crazy thoughts as a mushroom come up.

Also maybe I just didn't notice before but I have light CEV on weed. I've had a couple of strange "flash" visions too with weed in the days following a trip, like where I just suddenly have a vivid mental picture of something quite absurd, but not like I actually saw it with my eyes.

Obviously if smoked during/just after a trip its way fucking different. It can revive the trip quite a bit even if you thought you were done.

Only thing I can say for sure is since I've started tripping I'm better able to control any kind of panic/anxiety THC gives me, and that I see visuals. Weed hits me different all the time depending on all kinds of factors so its so hard to say.

Now I just wanna go back to when I was 14 smoking weed for the first time. That shit hit me so hard I hallucinated a beach party in the rearview of the car I was in. That was like a 2g hotbox split between 5 people and I passed on it after 3 hits. Time felt soo slow like it does on a mushroom trip.

The day after and up to about a week after an LSD trip, smoking weed is more intense and brings about mild slight visual hallucinations like walls changing colors, highlights from lights flickering, images or objects appearing to move away from me even though they are stationary, mild closed eye visuals. etc.

Interesting thanks guys. I can finally smoke starting this next weekend (the 18th,) and am looking forward to it. I personally really like THC while on psychedelics but am worried about HPPD, for whatever reason it worries me when before it didn’t. It’s wild how awesome music is while tripping with THC.

Cannabis is also slightly serotonergic so that explains its psychedelic effect to a degree.
It binds to the 5HT2a receptor.

So that explains why it can increase psychedelic effects of classical sertonergic psychedelics.

This is somewhat new to science.

I was gonna mention that as well but didn't wanna get too technical lol. But yeah, receptor complexes exist between the CB1 receptor and the 5-HT2A receptor, but also the Dopamine 2 and 3 receptor, Metabotropic Glutamate 5 receptor, Adenosine A2A/A1 receptors, and probably others. THC may not directly interact with those receptors, but they can and do indirectly interact with them.

Well I’m going to find out Friday. Havnt been able to smoke after I started using psychedelics a little too heavily. Not so much anymore. I really do think since I’ve been to the psychedelic world so many times since I last smoked, that like knowing what that world feels like will be part of the reason why it’ll feel different. Idk if that makes sense. I’ve read some people say they get minor visuals (which I wouldn’t want really,) but that can just be their experience and different scenarios.
