Thanks for the video. My bags are about 6.5 lbs. But I did notice that he let the bags sit in about 2.5" of water. I had raised mine. Had I not raised it I would have probably been able to fit the four of them in.

The bags weighed 6:06. I have been using PC for sterilizing bags for a while and never prevent them from touching the sides or top of the pot and have not had a problem. I think the key here of fitting 4 into the PC is to allow the water to come up a bit. Right now I have the steaming tray raised about 2" - 3".

You must have an electric stove then. I couldn't tell from the pic. But the pillowcase also makes it easier to keep the bags from unfolding when placing them in the PC. You can place them in the pillowcase easy then set them all down into the PC and the folded part will not want to slide up because it is being held by the pillowcase.

I would assume you raised it so you can get more water in and have longer run times. If you buy some washers from lowes or home depot to put more weight on the rocker it will lose a lot less water. I run my steamer for 4 hours and lose maybe a 1/2 inch of water.

With a gas stove, far more heat travels up the sides and gets the sides super hot. If you are not careful you will melt your bags with a gas stove.

I forgot to mention you need a PC with a pressure gauge to add weight to the rocker. If you don't have a pressure gauge you won't know where 15 psi is because the rocker does not rock anymore. I use 5 washers by the way.

Haha I was gonna say...good tip though! Why 4 hours however? I've read mostly 2-2.5hrs
Btw I found a steal of a deal on a 23 presto and it's inbound now. Good's Store out of PA selling them for 99.99 in case anyone is in the market. Was cheaper to buy from them and get it shipped to Canada then buy one in Canada. Code: Welcome10 gets you 10% off as well.

2.5 hours for sub but grains need longer. I would rather waste an hour than waste my time and grain. So I run my grain for 4 hours. I made a high powered hot plate from an old stove I got from craigslist for free and I use a PID and a timer to control it. So I press a button and walk away. No babysitting...

I also have the PC set up so if I am doing agar a loud alarm sounds when the pot reaches 145F so I know my agar is ready to pour and I can concentrate on other things and not have to keep checking the temp to know if it is ready to pour.

Just to be clear if you are going to put weight on your rocker you should do a test run by putting a lot of water in the PC and measure the depth of the water. If you do 2.5-hour cycles normally. Run it for 3 hours. Then measure the water and see how much water you lost. Whatever you lost is the depth of the water you needed. I would add a little extra water to be safe of course. Because you will be running your normal cycle 1/2 hour less and you added a little extra water you will not have a problem with running out of water and you will lose a lot less water when running your PC.

Yea some people use coins as weight but then you have to tape the coins onto your rocker and then the tape falls off and it is more trouble than it is worth. For under $2 you can just buy fender washers and solve the problem forever. Plus you would have to use quarters that are just as expensive as buying the washers.

I've got a serious drive for LM and figured I'd try oysters too. I've got a serious 45 bag fruit rack I made from 1x1x8s and painters tarp so it was cheap af. Wokring a +/- air pressure fan with a humidifier and running 100 LC bags knocked up in a closet. Also got some agar, slants, and grain growing for round 2 but I'm only a week in so I can't post much for results yet. If this works tbr way my brain thinks it will my setup is fairly cheap and after I fine tune my skills should produce around 150 lbs per fruit cycle. If it works u got room to build 3 more racks and convert another closet to a colonize another 100 bags. So 200 5lb bags colonizing and 135 bags fruiting capacity with a 3lb yield per block comes to 405lbs a fruit.
I'll keep progress and results up on https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/27071652/page/1

I think you are talking about this...
https://www.brewhardware.com/product_p/pcomp4.htm
I switched out the probe that comes with the PID for this...
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B071KNKY3X/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I set my PID to keep the PC at 255F and when it is done it just turns off. As I said before if I am doing agar I flip a switch and when it gets to 145F it will sound an alarm to let me know it is time to pour the agar.
That is a super nice setup at least I think it is. I spend no time babysitting things and more time with my family. If people would just take the time to set thing up right this hobby/business is easy and takes no time to accomplish your goals for the said hobby/business.
