Help with my plates
    #27074919 - 12/06/20 10:02 AM (3 years, 1 month ago)

Long time lurker here. I've started working with agar and I'm not positive what's going on with these plates. I started with putting a colonized grain to agar and got rhizo growth. When I transferred though all the rhizo is gone. The fuzzy plates In the picture are about a week old so I don't think it's cobweb but that's why I'm posting. Do these plates look ok and if so why did I lose the rhizo? Agar is 10g agar, 10g malt extract, to 500ml water.http://

as far as I understand it myc can either be rhizo or tom depending on a number of factors. Tom growth in no way = bad myc and rhizo doesn't always = good. As long as the growth is clean and vigorous it's good.

Someone else with more knowledge would have to fill the massive gaps in my statements.

My experience on agar is lacking (i.e. very bad). But This might be a problem from the agar plate itself. Looks to me like nutrients are dived unevenly over the plates. Turning the mycelia to grow different (weak on appearance, non rhizo)

I've had tomentose cultures that grew fast and fruited well and rhizomorphic that spit out what I call "phsychedelic ramen". In order to find out what a culture is capable of you have to fruit it. You grabbed a tomentose sector when you transfered that's why they look diferent than the source plate. I suggest reading up on cloning and sectors to get a better understanding.
