Yeah, im pretty sure i have covid.
I have never in my life been out of breath and not be able to catch my breath. i know meditation and breathing techniques and nothing was working.
i dont have asthma but luckily i do have some abuteral inhalers and epinephrine inhalers.
anyways, i was going to go get tested but its between $175 - $200 to get tested because i live in the country and the nearest free testing site is 96 miles away.
long story short. no way im driving to get tested when it will just tell me something i already know. very lucky to have some support for my lungs though.
shitty part is taking days off work and they want proof of test, they will have to fuck off with that though.

if you feel short of breath you should seek medical attention. at the very least you should locate a pulse oximeter and figure out what your saturation.
if you have some vitamin D, zinc and vitamin C around, start taking it. 200mg zinc twice a day (yes that's a lot). As much vitamin C as you can tolerate. it will give most people GI problems at doses over 1000mg at a time. take it as many times as you can per day without giving yourself diarrhea. IDK how much vitamin D to recommend. 5000IUs with every meal is probably a decent bet.
take care.

How do you think you got it? Are you allowed to come back to work without a test?

5000IUs of vitamin D with every meal? 4000IU per day is considered the safe upper limit and afaik doses of up to 10 000IUs per day have been shown to not cause toxicity. thats what I learned in college. but I'm not sure about 15000. Vitamin D is fat soluable so its probably a good idea to not take that much imo. but you're the medical professional.
get well soon OP.

I tested as extremely vitamin d deficient, the dose the prescribed me was 50,000 IU once a week.

Under normal circumstances no, I would never recommend such high doses. When you have covid, the activity of the immune system essentially drains your vitamin D, so you need more than usual. Taking 15000IUs a day for a week or so isnt going to hurt anyone.

I always add k2 if I take over 10k, there's not a whole lot of research on the safe/effective dosages though... probably a bit different for everyone. 20 minutes of sun is supposedly lome 10-30k equivalent

those are good points, I also take vitamin k2 with my vitamin d, and we don't know a whole lot about what doses are effective. more than likely by the time you already have covid, taking vitamin D is only going to be minimally helpful anyway. I believe it is mostly involved in innate immunity, and by the time you're actively feeling sick my understanding is that it means your innate immunity has already failed and you're now relying on your adaptive immunity to clear the infection (although I believe elements of the innate immune system continue to facilitate the transport and "activation/tuning" of the adaptive immune system). my educated guess is just that taking a lot of extra vitamin D for a week or so has very little potential to cause harm and and might help.
the vitamin C and zinc are no-brainers though. patients hospitalized with covid receive them. I'd start downing foods rich in quercetin too, personally. red onions, berries, kale/spinach, bell peppers. also apple peels. take just the peels and blend up and drink em throughout the day. the ursolic acid in the peel is probably active against covid. the ECGC in green tea as well will facilitate the antiviral action of the zinc
this is almost entirely based on speculation but it's what I would do if I thought I had covid and it isn't going to hurt anyone to take a reasonable quantity of extra vitamins and eat a lot of fruit and veg for a week or so.
but again... if you ever feel short of breath while at rest- lying in bed, or whatever... you should seek medical attention. its free in canada, no?

There has been speculation about vitamin D in big enough dosages preventing the serious form.
All so a reason why not so much cases during summer when 15 min in sun gives you 250mg

The sun has LOTS of do with d-vitamin levels of people. In many countries there was huge drop in cases during summer months. Not talking about America here.

that still works out to less than 10 000IU per day. a far cry from 15 000.
just thinking out loud.

Again, it's not a blanket recommendation.
If you don't think you have COVID, don't take 15000IUs a day. I take 5000IUs like 3x a week personally.
make sure you get d3 also, not d2. your kidneys are already working hard, you dont want to make them have to do all that d2->d3 conversion

One thing:
PEOPLE REMEMBER TO TAKE VITAMIN-D WITH FATTY FOOD OR AS SUPLEMENT WHERE IT IS ALL READY MIXED WITH OIL.
AS IT IS FAT SOLUBLE THERE CAN BE PROBLEMS WITH HOW IT IS ABSORBED BY YOUR BODY.

You're thinking of ascorbic acid (vitamin C). Some people who manufacture really expensive alternative vitamin C supplements (Rose hip blends and shit) have tried and partially succeeded to promote the idea that vitamin C isn't "just" ascorbic acid but also the other necessary cofactors (which simply amounts to a rewriting of the definition of vitamins in general), and/or that the ascorbic acid produced by "growing mold" is somehow inferior. none of it has any real justification in biochemistry.

Yes because people are outside not spreading the virus 🤦♂️
Arizona and Texas and Florida has their surge in the summer because it’s too hot to be outside

Considering how fast/well your body produces vitamin d changes with age, no one should ever be providing a static number.

As a general treatment recommendation, no, any number you throw out is not going to be evidence-based at this point.
As a "you might as well do this cuz it almost certainly won't hurt you and just might help and situation you're in is such that not availing yourself of any all help could result in your death" recommendation to one particular person I don't see any issue with it.
