Surprised no one has pointed this out yet...

Atoms and elements are different (but similar) things. Elements are made up of specific atoms.

I'd be mercury because being liquid at room temperature is kinda cool and fairly unique.

the one that immediately came to my mind was hydrogen.

it's the basic building block of every other element. it's the element of the stars - as they fuse together, they become every other element. it's the element of light, and the element that forms the basis of life itself. it bonds to a vast array of molocules needed for all sorts of things needed for life and the things we use and see around us, including water.

i dunno if that's pretentious or not, but that was the element that came first in my mind without thinking about any of the reasoning behind it lol.
