Guess what I got! 2

I got a freeze dryer for hunting meals, backpacking meals, and prepping...I’ve spent what the machine is worth, on mountain house in just the last couple years....at least that’s the justification pitch I gave her. Obliviously y’all know my other mycomotives. I’m excited to cram a harvest into it. I really want to see if I can freeze dry a plate, slant, and fruit, without killing it. If so, could it be 10 to 20 years of preserving genes at room temp? Also Will it have an effect on potency?...I think it might. What are y’all’s thoughts?

Picture, brand, cost? Just curious. I camp a lot and dehydrating meals is long and probably not as good as freeze drying them.

It’s called a harvestright. They pretty much have the market cornered. They make 3 home sizes, the Medium (7-10 lbs of food per batch) 2,600$ and the large is (12-16 lbs of food) 3,400$. My meals have been way better than any other freeze dried camping meals.

Yeah they are pricey, but if you use a lot of dehydrated meals it pays off. And the food lasts for 25 years so if you grow a lot of food it’s a lot better than canning. 👍

That idea sounds exactly like how the freeze dryer works. This harvestright should get fruits down to 99% dry vs 90 to 95 with a dehydrator.

Is a freeze dryer one of those contraptions that freezes things super super fast?

No it gets really dam cold -30 to -70, the process is called lyophilization. It gets down to temp then, pulls a vacuum 100 - 300 mtorr and slowly heats the product, while keeping the ambient temp cold, ice under a vacuum can skip phase changes and sublimate straight to vapor...skipping liquid and boiling. It is the gold standard for bacteria, virus, or biological specimen preservation. The pharmaceutical industry uses it because it doesn’t thermally break down compounds. The cannabis industry is starting to use them as well.

Surprisingly it doesn’t draw that much. Are you off grid or something?
