Most of my heavy stoner friends suggest just building up a tolerance to it, but that solution doesn't sound too appealing to me

There's definitely a degree of acclimation; I don't think it ever diminishes entirely. You just see it more clearly for what it is, IMHO. I think some people, after a certain age, just react completely different than they would have with the same stuff, 20 years back.

I still think set and setting are underrated for cannabis; it's seen as such a ubiquitous recreational thing now. You lose a little of the spiritual edge to it when you treat it like grabbing a coffee because you're bored (not implying anyone here is doing that; just a contextual example!).

I agree, i have smoked just about everyday since i was 13.  Im in my mid 20s now.

But it doesn't have that sparkle that it did when i was younger. Mainly because my tolerance it thru the roof. Its not as enlightening as it once was. Starting to think i need a break. But with my depression, its hard to make it thru the day without a little Mary J. Mushrooms have been helping with my mood and stuff. But its not like change happens over night. Gotta push yourself hard! As if your a gladiator in a coliseum and your about to fight a lion. Fight like your life depends on it!

Thats how i feel about cannabis anxiety. Its a battle of the mind. And you can win if you face that lion with no fear.

When I was in high school there was a kid who said "I don't like to get stoned, I just want to get buzzed" and we made fun of him for it. What kind of idiot just wants to get buzzed? I'm here to get stoned.

40 years later and I'm just like that kid. I do a single puff from a one-hitter, at 4-7 different times each day. Around a third of a gram per day. It's all I need to get me to a nice place and stay there. Once in a while I'll get high with my sons and they pack bowls of really strong shit.

That's when I realize how STONED I could be getting. I don't like that feeling. Totally ripped out of my mind, forgetting what I'm doing. I don't want to be stupid and hit my head on a street sign like my dad did when I got him stoned. Another time I got stoned with him, he tried to back the car out of the garage without opening the garage door. I don't want my kids laughing at me :smirk:

I know that "sparkle" you speak of, lol. I started smoking when I was about 19 (I'm glad I wasn't into it in high school, that was hard enough to navigate), and I vividly remember coming home after classes (tech college) at night, stargazing and smoking my much-awaited bowl pack out by my bushes. Those highs were, pun intended, next level. A pinch would send me to the moon for HOURS.

That's why I stick to the 1-1.5g a day rule of thumb; I find when I go over that amount daily, I'm smoking too much per session, and I just start to feel physically lazy instead of benefiting from the positive effects of it. I think that's important to learn for yourself, too! There's a big difference between ripping fat, 3.5g blunts to your dome in one sitting, and smoking every 2-3 hours, ripping like 0.25g a time (bong, baby :bongload: :sunny:).

The second I treat it like it's coffee or something it loses it's edge, and I over-smoke like I mention above. When I stay in my lane and consume that magic 1-1.5g a day, no matter how I divvy that up, life falls into place nicely for me :bongload: :sunny:.

This is an interesting thread because I took 12 months off from smoking weed, the longest break I've ever taken since I started smoking at 14 years old.  I smoked pretty much constantly from 14-25 years - daily dabber for a few years.  The only times I didn't smoke were when I took long vacations and couldn't bring bud with me.  Other then those few week periods, I smoked everyday and all day.  So taking a full year off was a huge deal to me.  At first, I liked it because I felt more clear headed, less washed, less foggy - felt nice not to HAVE to do something to be able to enjoy myself and just enjoy myself naturally.  But then after awhile, I started to realize that when used responsibly, weed had a really, really amazing aspect enhancing effect on my life.  That it made me feel good, inquisitive, made me actually "feel" emotions whether bad or good, helped me sleep, and helped me eat.

Part of what made me go back was A. well my legal shit is over so I'm no longer tests and B. Im pretty sure I caught a mild case of COVID back in April, and since then my appetite dissapeared entirely.  I had to force myself to eat 2 meals a day for 5 months almost.  But last week I finally decided ya know what, I can smoke again - i'm gonna try it out and see how it goes.  Worst case I dont like it and stop again.  Anyway, I forgot I loved it.  Beyond the medicinal effects, the recreational effects and how I can just jam on guitar for 3+ hours is amazing.

The only problem is the "acclimation" - I can smoke 1-2 hits and that's it!  Otherwise the buzz is just too strong hehe.

I can so much relate to your post. I quit smoking weed for 4 years after enjoying it daily since my teenage years. I then worked in a very stressful work environment which made me think cannabis might help smooth things out and it did. Now I get along with very little.

I have been smoking on and off for years now. I used to have a bad relationship with weed in so far as when I used to buy a bag I would just smoke myself into a dark place. First day would be great, second day alright and then all subsequent days I would be very anxious and depressed. I would just smoke spliff after spliff

Recently I switched to vaping. I wanted to make my weed last longer so I mixed it with cbd and had some great results. the paranoia would come occasionally but I would swat it away like it was a fly. For some reason I could do 3D modelling while stoned and had some really productive sessions. I also found that If I only vaped once in the evening that was all I needed and is what yielded the most positive effects for me

I love weed a lot, hard to be exact as to why but main thing is that it makes me feel creative and from a broader perspective I guess.
Biggest con to it imo is the no dreaming or dream recall . As for longterm cons , I seemed to develop a tendency to be more irritable and always wanting to be alone with prolonged use. Probably due to a number of things but I think weed has played a big part in that. Also depression.I'll never give up weed.

Obviously different people have their own reasons, personally -as someone who gets high most evenings, periodically taking a few days off here and there- it's probably more habit than anything else at this point. The head-space I enjoy could well be irritating or overwhelming for someone else, but years of association and time spent under the influence makes it a comfortable place to be, a lot of the time.

That said weed varies a lot for me, and I can't always tell what causes the variance. Sometimes I really enjoy it and I can just coast through an evening doing creative things/enjoying music/games more, really letting me engage with the thing I'm doing rather than jump around from one task to another. However other times -especially if I get high too early in the day- I just feel foggy and bored with myself, and usually following those experiences I take a few days off to reset.

To be honest sometimes after a long stretch of using weed daily, not using can feel even better and more novel.

In short, its complicated :strokebeard:

Figured I'd update this thread since posting I've made the choice to become a daily concentrate user again and was heavily influenced for the past month. I remembered why I loved it, and why I hated it, I remembered why people use it very clearly and also why it has no place in my life currently(even though it did for that month)

I just quit and am done with my experiment, there's lots of reasons to enjoy weed, as well as lots of reasons not to. Overall, it's an amazing healing plant. And the relationship I have with it is strictly as a spiritual tool, and sometimes that just means smoking some weed when winter comes rolling around the corner and the sun fades into the long dark days and nights and you need something to ease you into the warm dopamine blanket it has to offer.. after the initial paranoia inducing potency, you say to your self, I kind of like it here, in my habitual dopamine den, I think I'll stay awhile, but never too long

I find edibles allow me to dive deep into a creative process like making music for an extended period of time and enjoy it more. It feels more playful and I'm less self-critical so I can progress through projects faster.

Smoking doesn't have the same effect for me really. It doesn't have the smooth onset and the duration is so short it becomes a bit of a chore or distraction as my mind is rapidly bouncing between being very high and feeling like I need to smoke more to stay there. At the same time I'm probably too high to be productive in that short amount of time.

When I go to see live music I much prefer edibles because you can eat them as the show begins and easily ride the high like a wave through the whole show, rather than hopping on a roller coaster of repeatedly smoking.

Don't get me wrong, if there aren't any edibles, smoking will do but it won't be as enjoyable as the edibles.

I've certainly experienced the same sort of paranoia after tolerance breaks and being super uncomfortable. Sometimes I learn something valuable as my mind is racing I might have an epiphany, but other times it's too much to handle and easy to get stuck in loops.

I found that this happens far less often if I have been keeping up with daily meditation. If I've been meditating I have far less stress in general and should paranoia arise it is much easier to accept the experience as it is, feel it, and let it wash over me. The negative feedback loop is less likely to begin when you don't try to battle against your own mind.

I try to limit my THC intake to only once a month, usually for a gettogether with friends/family.  I suffer from pretty bad social anxiety while sober and I usually struggle to have a good time unless I sneak in a few of my THC edibles beforehand.  Once the THC kicks in, my social anxiety is diminished and I always have a really good time, laughing a lot and having really interesting conversations!  Cannabis has definitely improved my life and I'm so glad the stigma against it is finally coming down a bit, at least in my country.

well it's still lockdown, & the personal dopamine den hs become a holy sanctuary.

I have been making daily devotion in the evenings, but my throat is starting to feel sore and I feel like need to cough (though I hardly cough) after smoking for a few hours, and can barely talk due to throat irritation from a regular 2 tokes of bubble hash/day.

even now 15 hours later a big inhallation of fresh air feels like something is scraping and I imagine it is unabsorbed thc glue on my bronchi.

Good ole dab lungs. Breathe in and it squeeks a little, lungs dripping and coated in sticky resin, haha.

One of the reasons I also quit, after the wildfires hit, I had a bad reaction and lost my voice for 2 weeks. Recovered and started smoking again, but my lungs only lasted a month before I couldn't handle my dabs anymore.
