Storing colonized jars

Apologies because I am sure this has been asked before. I did some searching but couldn't find a clear answer for my circumstances. I have 13 grain jars which will be fully colonized within the next week or so. However, I will be traveling for the holidays and I don't want to start my next round of shoeboxes before I leave.
Should I put the fully colonized jars in the fridge, or leave them at room temperature? I will be gone for about 3 weeks, but may be gone longer. The jars are g2g transfer from 3 or 4 days ago... currently 50%-75% colonized.
I may be able to give them to a friend to hold onto, who can put them in their fridge when/if necessary, but I am not 100% sure and don't want to count on them if I can help it.
Peace and love. Stay safe everyone.

fridge is fine. id say leave out for a day before spawn.. prob not needed but just to maybe prevent any issues in spawning.

I asked one question, which was not a yes or no question, so I'm not sure what your 3 'no's are supposed to be answering.
Your opinion is appreciated but does very little to help my situation. I already have the jars. Are you suggesting I throw them out because I'll be gone for 3 weeks, or are you suggesting I quit growing entirely because I failed to plan this particular grow round properly? I'll be the first to admit I could have planned this better, but that doesn't help me now.

Definitely plan better next time. I haven’t had to do this but I would say do not put them in the fridge before they are 100% colonized. Because the grain would be uncolonized for a very long period of time. The fridge is full of contamination, I am wondering if you were to ziplock bag them then they would suffer as there is no gas exchange, but how much is needed if they are stalled due to the low temperature? Someone with more experience would have to answer that. I would hazard a guess that they need to be stored in something like two ziplock bags to stop contamination building up on the filter and working it’s way through.
You’re going to find out how this works out when you go to spawn them. Let us know.
I’d let the jars warm up for 48hrs at room temperature before spawning, maybe even a little longer.
Good luck

Since you have 13 grain jars why not try some storage variations? I guess 3 or 4 weeks inside a jar should not be a problem. Make sure the gas exchange is bad, real bad. So fruiting wont happen, or stops directly when it tries (as it runs out of air).
could be a rumor, but it may even increase potency on first flush (look up some old threads).

I like this idea, thanks! Always cool to try more experiments. I'll do 3 jars room temp no gas exchange, 3 room temp stored normally, and the same with fridge temps.

Your welcome! Also hope it gives you a useful discovery. I'm not sure about the fridge for uncolonized jars (not 100%). Cool temps ( <16C) will stall mycelia growth. Storing in fridge will work when 100% colonized.
The rumor was about giving mycelia it's time to build up energy and nutrients reserves. Not directly about temperature

I would sooner just leave them be before storing in the fridge not fully colonized. Spawning as soon as they are fully colonized is my best practice but I've forgotten about jars and still spawned them successfully.

Personally if not fully colonized I would leave em at colonization temps. As far as fully colonized master jars i regularly store them in my dedicated clean as fuk refrigerator for months individually wrapped with saran wrap after an Iso wipe down. Makes G2G expansion alot quicker than starting from my slants.

Sorry, I think I wasn't clear enough in the OP -- definitely not planning on storing the jars in the fridge before fully colonized. I am confident they'll be colonized by the time I need to store them; I even may be able to spawn and get a flush or two by the time I have to leave but I don't want to try and push things and end up tossing perfectly good shoeboxes.

Good to know, thanks. How long have you forgotten about jars and still had them viable?

I've left fully colonized jars for over a month and still spawned them with no issues if they look decent. As long as they don't go super bacterial or anything they'll be fine. Im pretty sure it used to be common practice to consolidate in your jars for a few weeks after colonization. Don't worry about it.

I think they'll be fine even at room temp for a few weeks after hitting 100%.
It's a long backstory and obviously not a conclusive study, but earlier this year I left a jar out at room temp for about 12 weeks before spawning to shoe box. The top started to dry out and I had to pry the grains out with a spoon, but it turned out to be an awesome producer.

Why is pinning in jar not a issue with this discussion
Let a friend keep them, I say Tell him to refrigerate once fully covered in white

Because if it doesn't happen it's not an issue?
