Standing dry identification?
    #27070505 - 12/03/20 06:22 PM (3 years, 2 months ago)

So this is my first post, I have been reading for a long time and can usually find the answers I’m looking for but I haven’t been able to find this one. I found a good sized patch of fruits growing in my neighborhood (north west Oregon) in wood chips and pine cones. It has been dry and freezing at night for a few days now.  They are definitely more pale than I would expect, and are not showing signs of bruising (maybe because they are dry?) Anyways, I’m curious to know if there is a way to identify them when they are found already partially dried?

Looks like Coprinellus or a similar Coprinoid species. Your looking in the right substrate, keep checking those types of places where woodchips are common and you're bound to find them. We are happy to help you learn, keep posting close up shots of the Cap, Gills and stipe, in situ photos will help us make sure you're in the right habitat.
