Looking good! Can't wait for mine to mature, recently started with zaps.. but even the mycelium on agar is terribly slow.. maybe moved 1cm in 2 weeks time.
:waitingpatiently:

Going to order a UV flashlight to check the subtropicalis out.. got to do something to kill the time. bought one with 365- and 395ns, curious to experiment with that. Who knows, maybe one type of substrate promotes more beta-carbolines than the other... I think we need to do more with this. Maybe see something from young v.s. older fruits.. open them up.. check the fluorescence.. who knows.

Is this a MS grow or a clone culture?

This one is a clone.

This is the MS tub I took the clone from:

Nice! Looks like you picked a well preforming clone. Excited to see how the shoebox finishes out.

What do ya'll do for subsequent flushes? I'm a n00b to using casing, so don't know if I should dunk, heavy mist, and if I replace the casing or what.

Also, Moopers, thanks for that amazing summary post.

All I do is patch or replace the casing, moisten it, and put it back in the tent. I don't personally find Semps to be really water-hungry. In fact, I find them to be the least water-hungry of anything I grow. I have pans, cubes, and semps in my tent and with my current fogging cycles, my semp trays always slowly flood while all my other trays remain perfect. So I haven't found a need to dunk or water.

Love the UV light thing! I'm going to have to try that. I bought some for Halloween.

Semp plate pins for cloning. Took exactly 2 months from date of plate inoculation:

So I been trying to get on board with everyone that's growing Semperviva. I had someone that was nice enough to send me a print. Unfortunately the print was so light I had a hard time making any of it out in my SAB. I took a swab and wet it with the moisture in my plate and swabbed the print. Even doing that there was only a faint color on the swab. It's been about a month and I finally got something on 1 of my 10 plates I swabbed on 2 separate tires. It's looking a bit disorganized to me but I'm hoping this is just how this myc looks. It is white, not grey or anything strange color. This growth took about a week once I seen it start. Sorry for the bad pics but I'm using pp5 plates(holy grail) and they tend to be a bit unclear. Please let me know what you all think this is. I have a feeling I might need to start begging for another print. Oh yeah these plates are MEA+Y 250ml distilled water 5g agar 3.5g malt and .5g nutritional yeast per 20 plates.

Can't really tell 100% with that plate.  I have two germ lines going right now. 1 I sent to water agar & the other one to LC. Mine looked thicker than what yours is showing but it does have a myc look to it.  Hopefully someone else has had their semp myc look like that & you can be off to the races.

This chunk of a cap stained the agar blue....

Looks ok to me. My semp plates look similar. Light and fluffy. Stay the course!

A month? you have a lot of patience.. I usually expect germination in a week or so, I use a bit less agar, bit more lme.. and a bit of soy peptone instead of nutritional yeast(less than 0,1gr for that amount). But maybe for germination a bit more nutritious broth could help? Whenever I cook potato's for dinner or prep grain for jars, I save the liquid in the freezer.. (especially with kids you'll have tons of trays and lunch boxes that never get used) and use that instead of water, or partially, whatever I got my hands on.. a bit of nutritious agar never stalled my growths. You could also try leaving out the food coloring. I'm not an agar pro though.. I do just PC for 20 min.. is long enough for these holi agar plates, never contaminate on me after PC.

Cool I'll get some transfers done tonight then. Maybe even send one to water agar and see how it goes. I'll make the suggested adjustments to my germ agar as well. I originally followed the holy grail Tek with the times but find out 20 minutes was all they needed. I've even gone 15 with no issue. Thanks everyone!

Has anybody had problems with spores dying pretty quickly?

I have swabs from last February that seem to be useless.

I have the below in my notes journal, and I recall other posts confirming, too. I just put a 3 year old print on agar and am not hopeful.

Quote:

ReverendMyc said:
I am beginning to suspect that the spores of Semp and Tamp varieties are more susceptible to aging than other spore prints.

I got good germination from all of the prints that Ambrose generously shared with me last year, but I can't get any of them to germ a year later. They were kept in a drawer right next to my own tamp prints and PE swabs that I had no trouble germing in the same sessions. The tamp prints that did work are the next generation from the prints from Ambrose, so fresher. About 4 months old versus 14 months.

One thing semps do that trips me out......

They will often look dead or stalled through the side of the tub during colonization phase:

Compare to cubes:

Yet this is the surface of that top semp tub:

The mycelium is just so much thinner that you can miss it if you aren't paying attention.

Holy fuck guys.. Just had my first Sub trip. It was supposed to be just a quick atmospheric test at 0.5g. Right?? NOPE! This fucker is stronger than anything I could have ever imagined!

So long story short, instead of a mild trip I've traveled dimensions, been melted and decomposed and shredded and all that.. Music created entire forests in front of my eyes. I've been a dying soldier, a big cat, a wild human and countless other things I forgot by now.

I can truly say that not only are they super powerful, they are also very gentle. I was NOT prepared. But it was okay, I just went with it and nothing bad crossed my mind.

What's SUPER strange, is that I was back to Earth after 2 hours (comapred to where I was at the peak), and after 3 hours I was close to sober. This is NOT consistent with what others report (8hr in other dimensions etc.)

Thoughts? Also, I'm super grateful for this community and everyone who is helping and sharing the love! You guys are just the best :hug:
