Cross post from the exotics thread, but as of 10:33 Alan explains a bit about the fluorescence noticed with mushrooms is about, I thought this would be especially interesting here.. he's talking about the gills, continues at 24:08 min mark, about P. subtropicalis in particular.

some action is taking place.. seems like a few hyphal knots are forming
I also bagged the other bags from the FC, as it's too wet in there.. water was pooling on the surface and I needed some extra space in there for fruiting papuana.

Hello my fellow subtrop lovers. Still working on getting results more in line with some of the wall to wall flushes I've seen posted in here. Coir sub, coir casing. [url=https://files.shroomery.org/files/22-43/715102079-PXL_20221026_003221381.jpg] [/url

Maybe a proper casing layer could make it happen.

Naw, it still behaves the same way with a nutritious casing. I think the key is a comparatively drier casing that it can partially colonize. I have tubs going with the drier casing now. Will report back.

This is 15 days since first pins. When does a person harvest these? A couple caps have turned up but there are also a bunch of smaller ones still coming.

Wait as long as you can. I personally wait until the cap margins are all up-turned and they start become fairly dark.

Hi all!
I've read through every page of this thread and some grow logs, and I've attempted to compile comprehensive notes on growing P. subtropicalis, organizing the wisdom/experience of many of the growers here into topics. It's in my signature and also here. I hope it will become a useful resource; I've had good feedback on the similar journal I compiled on P. natalensis saying it's been useful. If you could peruse it and either comment or PM me with your feedback, suggested changes/additions, etc., I and others who read it would be in your debt!
I am planning to put some old spores to agar for this species sometime in the next week and cross my fingers: It's a 3-year-old (Oct 2019) print from Alan Rockefeller. From what I've read here, older prints of this species don't do as well. If anyone would be willing to send me a newer print, or trade me for one (I have prints of P. natalensis, P. mexicana A Strain, light prints of ATL7), please let me know.

Thank you for doing this. I was planning on doing something similar but you did a better job. I added part of your comment on the first page of this thread.

Got a bunch of new pins forming I've got a feeling that this tub might turn out pretty decent for my first MS attempt with Semperviva

that one in the top left is a beast, and it popped up first... I usually avoid cloning single fruits and stick to clusters, but I'm going to make an exception for that chonker

...after 1 month it's alive..

For some reason the shoebox did not knot up like the bags.. so I was looking for knots when but found a fruit instead. Not sure why.. casing is fairly thick on both I have to admit, should have been thin but accidently poured in to much and decided to not bother to much about it.
I did loose a small bag to trich, a part of the casing turned green, recased it before with the sterilized casactus soil for a second time, so I knew there was a chance it would contam again.. which it did. scraped the casing away and didn't see any green at all, could have recased it with proper pasteurized 50:50, but decided to toss it as I scraped away a good amount of substrate too to check if any contam got inside.. probably spreading spores while doing so. A well.. got enough subtropicalis going, so not going to complain. Inoculated 8 more jars with my LC because I had them laying around.. why not? Lets just grow some more.
