Planning on spawning my first jars of Semperviva today
Is there anything I need to keep in mind about substrate or fruiting conditions? Do I need a wood substrate?

Nope, treat them just like cubes. I found a true casing after your sub is colonized really helps but it works without as well.

How old is that spawn Rotnpins? Read that a few weeks of consolidation is beneficial.

The jars are only 9 days old... thanks for the heads up I'll let it sit a while.. I was actually wondering about that.. the jars look good overall but extremely whispy.

Hmm... well, I've got a couple jars to work with, so I may spawn one today and let the others consolidate a bit to see if there's a difference.
I've read that Semperviva takes a long time to fruit... do you guys know a rough time line that I should expect? (x days to colonize, x days to pin, x until harvest)
Does the longer time frame mean that I'll need to mist before the first flush, or are they still set and forget if you've got your substrate prepped properly?
Also, do they tend to do better with a thicker sub ratio? I usually do something around 1:2-1:3ish

I think genetics make huge difference! My "Semperviva" culture would take forever to fruit. I received a Subtropicalis print in trade and it takes maybe month at most after dubbing. It might even be shorter if I tried. Usually, I leave mine until the first harvest unless it looks dry, then I'll add some water on top. If not, I only open at harvest, dump some water on top and tape it back closed. I'll pour out any excess water in the morning though they will fruit in standing water.
I think it is Hindsight who allowed his to dry out then soak? Maybe this is happening to mine when it sits, just slower?
I hope you doing mycelium tek with this Sp. too!

My grows have been about a month per flush like Yoshi. IIRC a.k.a. was saying about the same when I first started posting in this thread

Subtropicalis has active mycelium. A bit like growing stones, the longer it sits, the stronger it gets. Then eat the grain fresh, dried or extract.

😆 🤣 omg, thats funny... I'll pass, but there is definitely one family member who came to mind that would be more than happy to eat a bunch of spawn.. I wonder how much he'd have to eat (it might say in the tek, but I haven't read the whole thing yet)
I guess if I didn't have a decent back stock of mushrooms and I was just looking for a quick and easy way to trip it might sound like a good idea, but I don't really see the appeal

Same could be said for stones. Myc tek is an easy way to make mass quantities of actives, I make 3lb bags. It is very convenient for micro/macro and stealth for those that need it. I think after aging, 1 Tbsp is lvl 3 cube and if you extract and condense, you've got some scary potent stuff!
Maybe just start a pint for fun?

So, this brings up another question.. I've seen it debated, but idk if there is a definitive answer.. is cubensis mycelium non-active?
I don't mean active enough to trip, but active enough to test positive for psilocybin/psilocin..

It'd test positive positively.
Semp myc on white rice enriched with amino acids pushing a year now. This will get dehydrated soon and thrown through the flour mill.

A tablespoon of spawn = level 3 trip? No way I'm gonna believe that

The range of colors and patterns that have grown and regrown in those jars has been interesting to say the least. There were times when big dark blue patches showed up, went white, turned copper color and back to white again before growing more blue spots and repeating the cycle.
It seems to have reached a stasis now where it is just shrinking slowly.

Semp myc is active i posted this over a year ago and I did verify by having a guy imbibe 70g of myceliated grains and he reported a buzz.

Sorry, I extract all mine so I pulled the 1Tbsp=lvl3 from waaay back in the brain, I was wrong. In my defense, I age mine 6x longer. From the thread:
"I can attest to the fact that the method does work surprisingly well, but the potency of mycelium seems to be characteristic of the particular species mentioned in the tek. 1 level tablespoon of dehydrated whole kernels (incubated 2 months) equals roughly 1 gram dried cubensis. Making tea from the kernels is as easy and effective as making tea from dried fruits."
Here is a 2lb bag of my slow "Semperviva" genetics that was started 7/19/21. I'm curious how long it'll go.

2nd pic doesn't belong here but it is 3lb Pseudoaztecorum started 4/4/22. Also posted a bag of Nat myc in that thread.

Doesn't cube myc contain MAOI???
