That's really cool those cakes turned out pretty well. Now you've got me thinking of inoculating a couple cakes with ATL#7 Cosmoplex just to see how it goes

Absolutely. I'm going to try some more substrates to see how they do on loam soil.. in my search for substrates I noticed the clay additive used by Inski for Aucklandiae and Papuana and also all the pictures from zaps point to clay-ish soil.. so ordered some akadama.. but I'm also going to experiment with loam, after some searching I found here in NL a great source. loam soil from Drenthe, very clean stuff. In case any Dutch members are interested, google "Drentse basisleem".. also ordered some lava rock dust.. ("lavameel" from eifelgold)
Semperviva is on agar now, cleaning it up and already prepped some low nut LC.. can't wait to try out different bags of substrates. Also going to plant some sugar cane.. can't get bagasse here.. so I'll grow some myself. Exiting times.

With all due respect, you're all wrong. Mexicana/tampanensis are the prettiest. You're free to have your own opinion but that opinion is incorrect

I was looking for bagasse for the longest time and couldn't find any. Luckily someone linked me to some sugarcane mulch where I'm at so it should be the same or similar I'm guessing.

Getting really annoyed by subs fizzing out lately, right at the fruiting stage post full colonization. Usually some asperilligus type of mold shows up topside.
Wondering if I should start a new culture, look for fast pinners.
Anyone have a record pin time from spawn to share?
To know what to aim for?

From being spawned to first pins, mine takes 14 days. Like cubes, like Nats.

Harvest time for my second tray. These are sporulating very well. I'm going to skip printing them and just get clones instead. If the clones grow out well I'll print the clones. I had to cut out a chunk of the substrate due to trich but it actually didn't come back once I cut it out. Not a crazy dense flush but the fruits look nice and the stems are fat.

I finally got some prints. My second flush looked to be sporulating quite well so I went ahead and did it. Big fruits on these guys. I used a syringe to put a few drops of water on each cap after placing them on the foil. Seems to have worked nicely.

What smalltalk is saying here is actually exactly what has been happening to me over the past couple months with suptropicalis and semperviva: The jars and tubs colonize completely, smell normal, but then get hit by some nasty green mold as soon as the tub is fully colonized, and this happens regardless of whether the tub is cased or not (happens in both cases).
I'm definitely a proponent of the "clean spawn" approach which is why this is confusing to me, all the spawn I'm using appears normal on both agar and grains but dies to green mold almost on cue as soon as the tub is totally colonized.
I'll go back to spore since the problem here must be something I did wrong with isolating on agar. I almost feel like I've isolated a green mold culture or something instead of isolating a subtrop/semperviva culture, but none of the agar dishes green out at all.

My first few attempts at subs did the same thing, only it looked like trich to me. I just kept going back to spore, growing out multiple different cultures from MS, and finally got a good culture, though out of the two tubs I have fruited, one of them has a mild trich infection. I dug out a chunk of the sub with a big spoon to get rid of it during hte first flush. On the second flush, some small spots popped up on the edges where I previously cut it out. It does make me wonder if this species is a bit less hardy against trich/molds than others.
On another note, my spore prints came out really nice so I can check that one off the list. Now time to grow out the clones.

Damn, I'm having the exact same issue for the last month. And what's worrying me, is that I'm working with a clone of mine. At first I thought it was the LC which went bad, but the same damn thing since to be happening with agar inoculation (took a biopsy from a fruit, appeared real clean, but just to be sure took a T1, and innoc'd jars with this T1).
It's driving me nuts because like you: NONE of my agar plates show ANY contamination. I'm reviewing all my processes. I'm now thinking maybe I'm prepping my rye too wet...

I'm thinking the same thing... Thank God I was cultivating Natalensis at the same time as Semperviva, because Natals literally eat mold and trich... Otherwise I'd have gone insane with the amount of failures I had (and still do have) with Semperviva.
Now I want to grow gourmet and medicinal, and so I've decided to only grow Semperviva in terms of actives - let's hope I figure out this contamination problem if I want to keep my mental sanity intact
Edit: I've tested my prints too, and they came out fairly clean. I took T1 and will test them out soonish.
Here is an example of a contaminated jar, still fruiting because I cased it. Anyone knows what kind of contamination this is?

To end on a more positive note: outdoor Semperviva from spent cake. One layer of rabbit poop compost, the cake, one layer of rabbit poop compost, floating row cover. These mushrooms grew way faster outdoor than indoor.

Bruising:
