if the spawn its not showing any signs of being the direct contaminant , there is a chance the substrate is not getting prepared correctly or the contams are getting in during spawning process, healthy spawn is quite tough ,and since one had casing and the other not and both of them had problems , it only leave us with one suspect
edit : forgot to add another suspect the time ive had problems like that was wen i had a dirty fruiting chamber and everything i put in ther was clean but mold spores landed in the surface and created problems hope it helps

I think a lot of people have had success with these using just cv. I ran mine in straight cube conditions, smaller trays, no casing and inside a mono. I believe doctor Mario ran his inside a jcm with a casing and I believe the fresh prints ran them in cube conditions but with a casing. We all had pretty good flushes. I don’t think these require anything fancy

Leftover millet into coir/jiffy mix seed starter/verm, no casing, misted a handful of times since it got spawned 3 weeks ago.
Got 4 straw based Muda Bottles inoculated at the same time (millet was my inoculant) ready to go into a flower pot.

Thanks all. I will see if I can maybe put the subs in more shallow trays within a shoebox to see if that works.

Hey guys, at the risk of trying to summarize the wisdom of this thread into one sentence, semps are essentially grown just like cubes except for the longer period between pinning and forming fruits right? Are there any other deltas? It even seems like the casing is optional in at least some cases.
Does this same principle hold for the entire lineage (Semps, Subtropicalis, Hispanica)?

Yes to everything but the last question as I don't know the answer.
Ideally they need more FAE than cubes but they grow fine in the exact same conditions as cubes.

It seems that my semperviva on plates are more susceptible to bacterial contams than cubes. My T1s that have even a tiny spot of bacteria seem go to shit quickly. It seems like a perfectly axenic culture is even more important before moving not grains with these. The less than clean plates get really weak and unorganized rapidly.

Mine are very strong and will kill bacteria and other molds in petri dishes. They seem to last a long time and always grow fairly uniform. They will eventually get blue blotches and other weird growths after they sit for a while but those blue spots and weird growths transfer out clean for me and I believe they are just regular patterns for the culture. First time I saw it I thought my culture was fucked.
I'd suggest starting over from spore if you can and select for better genetics.

This bag looks alright. It’s a sold cake and some whispy myc on the surface. Of course it might get mold, but it looks good for now. It’s the same spawn and cv as the tub was. And I totally put chunks of that tub around the garden and in a basket outside, will keep my eye out for it. Got a couple more bags colonizing too.

I ran three different runs for a year that all turned green before I got fruits. I think the semp myc is unique and can hide mold a lot better than something like cubes, tamps or nats.
