For those reading this thread and wanting a print: PM me :pm:

If you don't have a print, or if you have one and want to try another one, go for it. I remember mycorry saying that pinning speed with this species was genetics related. I got lucky with mine. It originally came from a swab from alaskappalachian (:thanx:)

It pinned in 14 days. Took 23 days to drop spores. Spores came from these:

Please keep in mind:
  • It's my first time printing spores for a giveaway.
  • I wasn't expecting them to drop spores, so they were printed in less than ideal conditions.
  • Expect some cleaning on agar to be done.
  • I have 5 good prints and 2 faint (but workable) prints.
  • I'll only be able to post them next week.

PM me your address or a privnote. Let me know when you receive them - also let me know how clean/dirty they are, I want to learn and improve.

Mush

PS: I can't stress this enough, I have no fucking clue what I was doing when printing them, I'm not asking anything in return, just trying to spread the Love - so please be cool about it :thanx:

Hi all, I'm planning on growing semperviva up next, as I nitice the green has attacked one of my Pan Cyan trays.. so I guess the other 2 will need to be retired sooner or later too.

After reading bits and pieces about this species, I'm trying to think of the best approach. please correct me if I'm wrong:
- Fruiting in JCM is possible (docter mario), restrict airflow to a minimum/none as this species does not like FEA but does like a moist environment.
- Temp I assume this species likes around 24 celcius (would help to keep everything moist in the JCM).
- Maybe add some water plants to the JCM to provide oxygen without to much air movement (just a brain fart)? maybe add small pump to keep the water moving, no airpump.
- Substrate: plain CVG? Some say straight core.. or maybe mix some straw in there? In the beginning of this thread I noticed someone mention straw, but did not see comparisons (captain used 90% straw, 10% manure I believe, the_chosen_one 2 parts straw:1 part vermiculite, calcium and sand). Didn't see anyone in this thread raving about manure for this species. Apart from that substrate on the dry side.
- Casing is preferred, same as pan cyans pH adjusted peat + vermiculite, asura's casing recipe. Very thin, also on the dry side.

Does anyone have advice on some links with additional info, at some point I lost track of best practices / read contradicting things as they seem to grow on a wide variety of substrates.. Maybe links to the best growths you've seen or stuff I really need read about. Thank you all in advance

I followed mycorry's advice to recase after the first flush, but I think I should have recased everything! I mean look at where the second flush is growing from: all the recased patches. And it looks like a heavy flush too!

I just remove the whole casing, washing it away when I dunk the cake and add a new casing. Midght not be that easy with a tray or a tub.

FC
just a tub (EZD). ime a tray,a bag or a shoebox  inside a bigger tub works best.
temp
23C is ideal but around it works as well
sub
coir, cvg, straw, manure, coffe, just cased grains... all is good.
casing
asura`s casing recipe is perfect.
All you need is pacience

Yeah, I would like to mimic the results CaptainFuture and The_Chosen_One produced with the more broad caps, so I'm looking into what they did too. Thanks for the info!

Ill get back to this species next month, good luck! I find it painful to read about all the persons finding them fruiting fast. It's also apparently and in my experience really Heavy on psilocin so I'm wondering on reports of the dried potency.

Why painful? If we would all have a massive flushes tomorrow without any effort, there is no fun in growing them right? It's not like we're running out of mushrooms . Would love to grow zapotecorum too in the future, just because they look so pretty and because I can't seem to find any print... even looked for an "official zapotecorum thread", but it doesn't exist. :frown:
Yes, may take 6 months or a year, but thats the beauty of having no certainty.

My semps are on T1s, looking kinda tomentose, but not bad. I’m very excited to run a few shoeboxes and try these beauties. I here the experience from just a couple grams fresh is breathtaking and unique.

Pain as in personal jealousy!  These were so slow for me:tongue:

That said, They rank above Natalensis in effect for me, most pristine and clear effect ever experienced simply unexpectedly sacred and pure

It's ok, when someone succeeds it paves the way, everyone benefits. Like I'm tapping into the knowledge of everyone who has gone before me (including you, read the whole thread). I'm gratefull and happy you know how to grow them and advise me

I’m glad you sent me a  print even when at first  I wasn’t all that interested:grin:
Spawned a tub and a bag last week, and inoculated a couple more bags, plan on making them a part of the rotation
Just by how you and other have talked about them.

More FAE.
They are similar to Tampanensis. Low FAE enviroments produce long stems and small caps while High FAE enviroment results in shorter stem and bigger caps.
A JCM FC should be good for this.

I'm at SIX WEEKS now on a semp tray waiting for it to fruit. It colonized fully and looks great. Nice even mycelium coverage. But still just sitting there. I'm tempted to do something to try to shock it into fruiting like submerging it or putting it in the fridge for 8 hours or something.

If you are sure of the spawn maybe try dunking it, many participants in this thread including fantastic result posters (mine are middling)
Recommend soaking them, and the mound from my thread was super wet, unmodified, and still pinned extremely well given the probably 1/5 myco quart of corn spawn used.

That's all I got! Subs have proven themselves to contam alot right before getting started in my book so I've maybe fruited 5/15 subs or something.

Mine contam when dunked hehe and liked being left the fuck alone most of the time, so hopefully it'll turn out

I've noticed that if I don't squeeze hard my substrate (CV) to field capacity, I get a lot of contamination on my Semperviva. Almost like they don't mind having their caps wet (for spores production) but feet is a no-no.

Thank God we can grow other mushroom species than Semperviva, because the patience and the waiting required for these is just excruciating
Especially once you've tripped with them already - and can't wait to get back to this pure and sacred experience.
