I agree with you on the FAE. I haven't found the right balance yet between FAE and keeping humidity high enough for them. Last tub some dried out and died. I'm still adjusting thing.

This definitely makes me even more excited to get the ball rolling on this species. I have a few plates that look good and will be going go grain soon.

Thank you my friend It was that good, yes! Semperviva really is another beast. A unique one
I do take large doses of sclerotia, usually between 15 and 20 grams dried - or last time was 60 grams fresh of "Mex. A". But that only applies to sclerotias, for mushrooms, I only need "regular" doses.
I do not know about the potency comparison compare to Pan cyan/bispo, as I have never tried them. But if I remember well, they are some prints in the Xmas package you sent me I might have time to put spore to agar next week. And go back to Rancho Agosto too.

You're right to be excited about this species. The hype around it is real! Your plate looks beautiful
Few more things:
- I still cannot believe the experience.
- Some people (like my brother) say the mushroom talks to them. I've always been a bit jealous of that, as I always had to interpret what was shown to me. With Semperviva, there really was a presence communicating with me.
- I've done Ayahuasca 4 times in Holland. I strongly felt the vine's spirit, and it communicated with me. To me, Semperviva is on the same level, but maybe not as "crushing" as Aya can be - keeping in mind I've tripped only once with Semperviva.
- That first session was an introduction between the two of us, the mushroom and I. At the end of it, He said: "Take your time, but come back soon!". I found this hilarious.
- I'm still amazed at how mentally and physically switched on I felt. I could feel every single fiber of my muscles, every single nerve in my body and the electricity in my brain going from neuron to neuron.
- I cut the mushrooms in the photo in pieces, and made a tea. I ate all the mushroom bits, they had no taste whatsoever. I didn't feel any nausea or stomach discomfort.
- The effect were felt 17 minutes after drinking the tea - that was quick! I had CEV 10 minutes after that.
- The trip lasted between 3,5 and 4 hours. And I could still feel some effects 2 hours after that.
- It took me another hour (so 7 after drinking the tea) to fall asleep, couldn't come down from the excitement.
- At some point during the trip, I was in total exhilaration, I couldn't refrain to go outside, and dance at night under the trees in my garden for a good half an hour.
- My intentions before the trip were to reconnect with the sacred. And re-discover the beauty of Life. It's a tendency of mine to become bogged down in being a very efficient person, but disenchanted about Life. It feels like there's this chemical glitch in my body for some reason. My wishes were fulfilled

It sounds stupid, but I grew up reading fantasy, playing D&D. How I loved these universes of magic... And I found real Life to be kinda dull compared to that. Too mundane, lacking spirituality, magic and higher beings you communicate with. And I know it sounds really stupid to write this. But with Semperviva, it feels like I finally found a Mentor, a guiding spirit I've been looking for for a long time. It answers the interrogation many of us have: "But there has to be something more!". Some people are very religious, some are more sensitive and can feel more, whereas I need something concrete, and here it is, in all his beauty, wisdom and fun: Semperviva!
My goal now is to grow more of them (oh the anxiety of being able to succeed again!), get prints and share the Love

Those look nice! If my current batch of trays fails, I'm going to try that method next. I've yet to fruit these. I have one tray that's been sitting at a beautiful, even, 100% colonization for around a week or so now and am just waiting for it to fruit, and I spawned two more trays a couple days ago. All from different cultures, and two different prints. Fingers crossed. These are the last of the non-exotics I've really wanted to grow.

Mine usually take a couple of weeks to start pinning and it doesn't seem to get faster between flushes like cubes tend to.
I buried 4 coir based cakes in a flower pot with some grass seed a couple of weeks ago. Got a nice little lawn but still waiting on the mushrooms, hopefully soon.
These will get buried with clover seed once colonized.

Hey guys, I am working with a subtropicalis spore syringe from Spore Works (it's labeled subtropicalis as opposed to semperviva or hispanica). I got this syringe before generous members also shared prints with me, which I am saving until I have a bit more experience with this species.
My theory is that the spore syringe I am working with is contaminated (even if it's from Spore Works) because the mycelium looks suspect to me. Could someone spot this agar plate and let me know if it's indeed contamined as far as what subtropicalis should look like? It just looks too "powdery" toward the center to me as though it's some other mold or fungus.

Transfer that edge spot at about 2:30 o'clock. Looks like a semperviva ( also known as subtropicales) germ plate.
It's a good time to be pleased with yourself.

Thanks guys, I was really ready to chuck the plate and call it a casualty, it's really interesting to me how different these species can look on agar. It almost looks like trich to me toward the center, before trich turns green.
I'll go ahead and transfer out. The other germ plates (this is a T1) had a similar look where many colonies look powdery, but not all. Thanks for the assist guys.

I had the exact same on a germ plate and I waited and waited for it to turn green but it never did. Definitely get what you mean by trich before it sporulates. Got that plate in the fridge actually so probably transfer that in the next few days.

When do you guys harvest your Semperviva mushrooms?
I have this Pasty EZD that is more than a month old now. From what I've read here, it's better to focus on 2nd flushes to try to get prints.

So I'm thinking about harvesting the tub, "filling" it with water, wait for 3-4 hours, empty the water out and then put it back in place.
Is it the right process with this species?

A month since S2B or a month since pinning?
You're probably good to pick whenever. Dial FAE up a bit for next flush.

I usually wait until the bottoms of the stipes tart to turn a little brown and the caps darken a tad, but this species is too relatively new to state an exact best time to harvest.
As for harvesting, dunking the cake for 4 hrs then recasing will do the trick, just make sure that you don't damage the cake in the hydration process. I've literally had cakes split in half from unequal buoyancy, sloshing water currents, or just from trying to dump the water out without the cake ejecting.
