If you're gonna use a JCM chamber for semps, don't worry about a fan. I didntput holes in the lid either. The temp stays around 76°F and the humidity stays at 99%. Lots of condensation will build up on the lid so you'll have to carefully take it off every two or three days and drain the water off of it. If not, a small bump or vibration will cause water to drip all over your trays.
Again, that doesn't matter much with semps. They don't care if you drown them but if you're gonna run. Pans or Tamps in there, you'll want more air flow.
This is great info thanks! It aligns with what I'm doing, except my humidity is around 92-95%. I'm not in a JCM, but I have a small insulated cabinet that I can dial into different conditions. I could raise the humidity if recommended but then I start to get water pooling in the corners of the chamber.
My main remaining question is what kind of timelines you see after sending to fruit? This thread is all over the place -- 3 weeks to 6 months -- so I'm curious what you're seeing?
I'm 24days (w/ coir psuedocasing) and 18 days (straight coir, no pseudocasing) respectively in. this photo. I'm going to try and resist messing with it and casing it. Sticking to the KISS principle

yo! finally got a tub of these colonized. spawned to straight coir, probably a bit on the dry side at spawn unfortunately. haven’t gotten much on the top but the sides are all white. thought i saw some pins forming, had some patches go brown on me & figured it was drying out so i’ve been misting a bunch now. any comments/suggestions with this tub? it’s my first run of em so i’d like to get some spore prints or clones if i can

The time line from spawn to harvest is culture dependent. In the very beginning of the semp cultivation here most people were seeing really long waiting periods but now that it's becoming more popular that 6 month wait is turning into months and even weeks. A lot of people aren't doing anything different than what others were originally doing and are also getting short fruiting times.
I think that favorable genetics are slowly being isolated as spores and cultures get passed around and that's why the time has decreased so much.

that’s a solid observation. i remember when i first got a print & read this thread, seemed like people were consistently waiting half a year to get fruits while some got them in a few months. it would make sense that we’re selectively breeding them to an extent. my spore plate took like 2-3 months to germinate, luckily i’m just lazy & hadn’t tossed it lol. got pretty fast colonization on grain tho which almost made me think it was a mold & not the myc, but here we are. can’t wait to try some fruits

Thanks man. Growing with natural light has me rotating these jars daily, but now they're all reaching different directions lol. It's been fun to watch

Yeah, I've been just using natural light as well. I don't really pay attention to which way I put the containers down though so they've been turning and twisting every which way

I'm pretty sure I got a different set of genetics then you guys have. I ran in different circles for 10 years before I decided to venture back here.
Mine were never grown as far as I know. The person I got the spores from said they were old and bunk.

Isolating got me from 6 months to 4 months. We are getting the speed and pinset up!

Letting your grain sit for while helps speed up pinning/fruiting as well. Let the fruits sit for a while until they drop spores and then let them stand longer -- the base of the stipe and the portion of the stipe just underneath the cap will turn different colors (shades of pink) as the MAOIs build up. The ones I let stand for two+ weeks are definitely stronger than the ones that looked mature and had just dropped spores.

so I have a bag of grain at almost 100% should I keep it on the shelf for another couple weeks or months? fridge? room temp?

Truly insane that these just keep getting more and more potent! They really seem to give no fucks at all!

peer pressure resulted in me soaking every semp sub last 1-2 days.
when i think about it, all my corn to coir subtropica grows have been exactly that; overhydrated coir on top of cornspawn during the state of pinning and fruiting. Thinking alot about what dr super mario has posted. FAE didnt seem to matter for me, i was getting what i thought was good flushes with a single hole or unmodded.

coir was very wet and liquid pooling in one mound to the floor of tub.

Give them a couple weeks on the shelf @ room temp -- also the myc is active but has a different effect on the psyche. There's no way to go wrong with these really.

My favorite mushroom to say the least -- I can mist them until their upturned caps are carrying water and they don't care either. I'll never go back to cubes for personal, doesn't matter the variety.

I prepared 3 separate sempervivas. first one dried up I threw it because the other one wouldn't come out, In the third one, I continued experimentally.
It's been 3 months since I took it to the fruit room and it's nice to see some mushrooms now.
So my ticket is ready for a beautiful journey with the fantastic sempervivas of Nichrome.
