Can't tell TBH little measly fruits. The spawn smelled like gourmet or moreso oyster. Anise and that meaty oyster smell I can't describe.

Just looking for an opinion on a couple of these subtropicalis trays. They colonized a fair bit faster than some other trays (densely white and cottony in about 7-10 days.) They appear to be knotting, but I'm also concerned it may be mycogone or some similar aggressive competitor. All input appreciated.

Hopefully this is a bit better. I'm most concerned about the brown tray. It's the most "bubbly". I'm way more confident in the transparent tray actually being pins. .

A couple more. What would your opinion be on casing these. Yay, nay or turf?

True enough. I'm just a little dubious about them as the trays that yielded fruits from my previous subtrop grows didn't have mycelium that was nearly as aggressive as this. Oh well though, maybe I've just got a couple of bomb ass cultures and I'm being paranoid 🤷. Will post back as the trays progress.

Yea I don't see anything wrong with them at all. Remember, just because one mycelium looks different, doesn't mean it's fucked. Unless thee are obvious signs of problems.. SEND IT!

Really appreciate the input Adas. I've already had 5 out of 14 trays trich out, so I'm hyper vigilante and on high alert at the moment. They're all different cultures, so surely one will be ok!

For 14 days, 3 semperviva pans are waiting in martha. I still haven't seen the pin. I held the nebulizer steam over a tray and it turned slightly bruised. I put one in the shoebox. I left one out in Martha. I tried the other one, I'm waiting. I will upload a photo, but I cannot upload a photo higher than 1kb. There is a problem right now.

They are not super delicate but they do need humidity. They take a long time to make fruits, weeks sometimes.

Thank you, still haven't picked them yet. I'll probably do it tonight, there's some good sporulation going on.
Your plate looks good, all the viva myc I've had looked like that too. Bit wispy but densely packed. More like tampanensis/mexicana or pan cyan than cubensis

Looking forward to getting in on the fun here. This is my first time trying Semperviva, so I'd like your guys' feedback on what I've got going.
The growth on this germ plate looked good when I took early transfers. But now that I've come back to it, I fear that I might have transferred mold. Germ plate, T1, grain.

I have a few backup plates, but they are moving at a snail's pace. Thank you in advance for the advice!

Hello everyone! Thank you all for the wonderful information in this thread. It's been a slooooow process, go figure, but finally harvested my first flushes. I used a monotub and an automated fruiting chamber (Fan, aquarium water-pump/light), side-by-side, with the AFC being slightly better, but not by much. Temps have been between 18c and 23c. I got about 10g dry.
Grew from spores on agar, 3rd transfers sat in my fridge for about 10 months with no adverse effects it seems. Colonised on rye and then spawned to sub made of coir, coffee, oat bran, sand, gypsum, and calcium carbonate. Casing was simple verm/peat/Calcium Carbonate.
Without having to go through all 34 pages again to find an answer, do you all scrape off the casing layer before dunking and then re-case? I never used a casing layer like this with cubes.
I also have some jars almost done colonising to experiment more with different substrates. I don't think the recipe needs to be as complex as I made it. Would be nice to contribute some more info back into the community as well.

So I keep trying to smell my viva bottles since you asked this and couldn't really smell much off them last week but now they are almost ready so there's a good amount of mushrooms in there and yes, they do smell very much like oysters. Much more pleasant smell than cubensis

You don't need to scrape off at all. You'll need to re-case if the original casing layer is either completely colonized at this point or if it washes off during the dunk.
