Why are people adding sand to their subs/casings? Has anyone done a side-by-side to see if it makes an impact for sure?

I started fresh and swabbed some plates monday. I was a retard last go round, swabbed in the spring and fell off my game in the summer.
I like sand in my casings, I've used it for tampanensis after reading about others doing it(I believe mycocolorado first). My tamps seemed happy and the casing itself was more workable so twas a win win in that situation.

These things take sooo long to develop spores. I ended up swabbing because very few looked dark enough to print, and 2/3 of the cap was rolled up facing the ceiling
Pretty good haul though, curious if they get bigger second flush.

My first subtropica pinned off boiled kindergarten sand as a casing. But it's in no way advised or preferable by any argument I've seen.

Nice tray! Bastards can be stingy sometimes.
Ever get a chance to sample any?

I think natalensis and subtropica is the biggest expansion from cubensis here at the shroomery, which has something going for them competitively, against cubensis
I believe these will be very mainstream in time, with a assortment of strains

These yields all look amazing, glad to hear the positive trip reports too.
I've been growing tamps/cubes for a couple years and have a been wanting to branch out to other species. Does anyone have a swab/print of subs to trade/share?

Had 2 more bags of spawn. 1 bag of spawn was broken down into 2 shoeboxes, 2 take out containers, and the rest stayed in the bag mixed with CVG.
Other bag is fully colonized and I think I'll just leave it be to see if I get invitro pins.
Substrate was manure, hay, bit of verm.

I'm SO happy about how this looks. I don't remember ever seeing such beautiful Sub mycelium. Maybe you guys just make lower-nutrient agars?

Yep, it's been two weeks since I saw pins now and I think I can see some gills change color... or maybe I'm just lying to myself.
They certainly live up to the species name.

First flush dried to about 21g.
Still havenβt tried them but if theyβre half as good as pans thatβs a great yield.

Yeah, ontop of a Ziploc quart. Inspired by Muda's Bottle TEK, Violet's PODS and Pasty's in-vitro straw.
