Man I just yoinked out my only playa print two days ago to streak from. Those silken/sheeny-yet fibrose, gnarled stipes in that cheesewheel can only be from playa parentage... Still have yet to run those.

Would damn sure be nifty af to get a subtrop pheno looking like that though... I mean just for the sake of BE... Jeebus what a thought.

Just over three weeks in on Xico, a few more pins are on their way through the casing. I truly cannot get over how slow they're maturing. This one started to fruit on day 10, just like the others. The one I put straight into the martha has yet to show any signs of life.
Xico vs the speedy bois two weeks after casing.

Hi everyone!
Just wanted to share a post from another thread, but I believe it really belongs here!
As you all are aware, more so than me, it's going to be a while before I can share!
I'm just excited that it's actually the big nipple hoogs!
Quote:

I actually just found someone selling a liquid culture of semp/hoogs!
You know, the ones with the "wizard nipples"

I was gonna wait but from everything I'm reading hoogs are super rare so I'm going to get it and try and keep the species alive!
For all of us!

Yes, I will ABSOLUTELY share genetics!

Heres the pictures in the description. I'm gonna go for it, worst have scenario it's not hoogs, just semperviva, which is okay too!
And if its the real thing... Hell yeah!!

Does anyone have any experience with the big nipple ones pictured?
Like how's the trip?
And, how about the substrate?
It says they grow in clay, and there isn't much info, if any at all on adding clay to coir. Not that I have found at least
Bensonite clay, gypsum, coir?
But what are the ratios?
I mean exact ratios would be nice, I guess I'm just asking if anyone has any close estimate of it, to give me a good place to start?
I have a feeling I'm going to have to do some trial and error with multiple tubs, And these take forever right??
As close to ideal for an educated guess would be awesome!!
Thank you everyone!!

I doubt they are growing on clay rather something in the clay.

Yeah in clay,
Mixed with coir right? And gypsum?
Any idea how much of each?
Or at least a good starting point for trial and error?
Thanks!

My point is the clay isn't likely going to help you, it's more a part of its environment than its substrate.
I would stick with traditional substrates

I’m not sure if it’s hoog, but I remember reading about a species that wouldn’t fruit until the guy went and dug up clay from near a river where he collected them and mixed it in the sub. I assume it imported a micro biome the mycelium needed. Some of these exotics are really difficult.

Yeah!
Could be hoog!
I have read about other people on this forum not being able to fruit, he kept getting aborts.
Also have read about clay in the casing layer, not so much in the substrate.
If it's the real deal, the big nipple one,

I have a feeling there will have to be some clay involved somewhere for anything magical to happen.

3d flush semperviva beauties… These were misted daily during fruiting. When they matured i stopped misting at some point and left them dubtubbed without opening for at least another week, rather two. No curl, therefore some fuzzy feet. Love their colors and sheen..
