I wonder how would some people get fast and dense pinning on straight coir with no casing at all. Some don't even manage to case in time and already have a ton of knots. As for me - I got mold on my peat based casing so many times that it's frustrating, and other times fruits were tiny even though it was a canopy. Maybe peat was too acidic, I don't know.

Asking the Semp Pros out there, would you mist this? My previous bag grows were slightly less fae and i never misted them. Upped the fae to try to get some bigger fruits this time around.
So far ive only misted once at full colonization. Thoughts?

not a pro by any means.. but for science you could mist half? that would interest me.

ime they love to be wet. You know the look of great surface conditions? Like that but on the fruits themselves. Beads of water everywhere. They seem to suck it up and ask for more. I only do that once every day or two after the pins are over 5 cm or a couple of inches or so. They tolerate less but look better with more misting and fae.
I am convinced that they want a dry-ish substrate then a moist-ish casing and then wet fruits. My culture does, at least.

I mist my semps all the time. They love to be wet. I think it helps keep the caps from curling up.

This just happened on one of my semp tubs, casing went green.
I'm not sure if it's related but I've cased 2 more tubs to see if there's a problem with the casing.
I'm also interested in knowing how some people get amazing flushes with coir alone.

this is what happens when you dont mist and up fae. the caps got all curly and i didn't even bother to try to make prints they are fatter and softer stemmed and they bruise dark blue, almost black. its a different selection than the ones i showed last time. they are from the same print.

Day 18 of the side-by-side run. We now have eggs
Melgo’s

Mine

Bonus tub: found a cool plate pin that had party hat caps when fully open. Hoping it carries over. This one is on day 17, no knots/primordia to be found. Casing it today. Ran this one dry, I usually have action by day 10-12 when I prep them wetter.

The same genetics on coir only substrate - short and thin:

And the same on coir + straw + manure - short but thick:

As you see it depends a lot on substrate nutrition!
Awesome fruits!
Good point about substrate components. They love more additions same as cubes.

A 12qt tub has some oddballs, do you folks think this is a cross contam or mutant semps, maybe caused by if-y spawn? The more typical pheno in this tub just showed up a 5-6 days ago, provides a nice comparison to what I usually see.

I took some clones of these and the stipes felt woody like semps, the spores have taken 2-ish weeks to start showing on the caps which also feels very semp-like.
I figure they're semps, just curious if anyone has seen a variation like this? Along with the clone tissue I also took some swabs to agar so we'll see what the next generation produces.
And a pretty standard flush to go along with it (from same LC as tub above):
