Well then I'll stick to bucket tek coir for future runs. Makes life a little easier. I actually bucket tek this coir before bagging and putting in dehydrator.
Don't see how you guys regulate the temperature to do a proper pasteurization with PC. The couple write ups I saw would more likely sterilize than pasteurize.
Casing in the Dehydrator is much more viable since won't need nearly as much but I still think in the long run a Sous Vide will be a welcome addition.

It takes some baby sitting to do it in a regular pc. The Instant Pot has a Keep Warm function that holds the water bath at the perfect pasteurizing temperature. Some have a sous vide function that lets you set the precise temperature. Mine doesn't have that. But the Keep Warm settings are:
Keep Warm Less: 135f/57c Keep Warm Normal: 145f/63c Keep Warm More: 167f/75c
I use Keep Warm Normal for 4 hours.

Gallon freezer zip locks and a designated microwave here. 2 minute intervals until almost too hot to handle in a small microwave. Repeat for subs if needed. Manure based subs usually take a few runs and this would be the only case where a designated microwave would be advised .
I've always found them to be very tough against contamination. One of these days I'll get the pictures off of the broken computers hard drive and have a lot more to show. There's some where they are fruiting right along mold lines invitro and even punching through green spots.
Their longevity is what lead me to cactus soil as a casing. Works great and will grow moss before mold lol. Pics of that stuck in there too. Ugh.

That would be Workman. He's the one that fired up and blessed us with the original find around 2007 I think it was. At the time I believe they were on the endangered species list in Mexico so some of us were sending spores to Cactu who was reintroducing them via slurry back into the wild. A few years later they came off the list. So there could be some concern regarding wild vs transplant. The only other find I'm aware of atm is Xico. Which I heard about here.
I find outdoor beds very easy to establish with grain spawn. Unfortunately my winters are hard and this is not the native range. I'd imagine reintroduction would be a breeze but I also understand the rarity of circumstance coupled with experience and inclination to do so. I'm very glad to hear this is happening though.
This is Earth and regardless of "nativity" these creatures deserve a home here on Earth like any living thing. I have seen with my own eyes the benefit these bring to the environment around them.

This is what I was going to say. The instant pot is amazing for cult work. So much faster to sterilize tools/agar/lc than a pc, and the auto pasteurize function is great. Plus the whole electronic with a timer thing so you don’t have to worry about it.

I was still a lurker back then and never had direct interaction, but I always liked Pudin. Talked to Elektrolurch a few times at a few places in pm. Too paranoid back then to do much else but lurk though. It was actually Billy who convinced me to start posting, but even then it took a few years. The main reason I started was to find him after loosing touch for a while.

Love the set up 0t0lerance. I do something similar and found that Hydroton is a hell of a lot easier to work with than perlite. ime. Same idea, just easier to clean and less mess to set up. I add a little bleach to some rinse water between grows, shake it, soak it, rinse it and ready for the next run. I think perlite is a pita.

What sub to spawn Ratio does everyone use. I'm planning on running them in shoebox inside my martha. I usually do 2:1 + 1/2qt pseudo casing with Nats/Cubes in Shoebox
I know with these the Pseudo casing will be only enough to cover any exposed grains then casing later. Speaking of How thick/thin should the casing be? Going with Peat/verm/lime

I’m usually closer to 3:1 sub/spawn.
My casing is very thin 2-4mm. I can see some white myc after I case.

What do you guys think of these 2 plates? Are they clean enough to keep and send to grains? I don't know if those circles are normal or not.

Thank you!

Maybe there is no fast or slow genetics? Maybe since the mycelium produces more actives the longer it ages, stronger mushrooms would be produced by an aged sub? My bags usually sit a month or so after spawning. I'll let it go about 2 weeks then crumble to a shoebox and let go another couple weeks. Whether lazy or busy, sometimes they sit longer. After that, usually I'll case them and let them sit longer before they eventually fruit.
Melgo, maybe try using your favorite strain and slowing your process down to see if you get a stronger end product?
If this is true, maybe other mushrooms with active mycelium would benefit from aging before fruiting? Some have found later flushes of Natalensis seem to be more potent than early.

There’s a whole thread about preventing subs from pinning to increase potency, I can’t remember who though. Verum maybe?
Somebody should get back at it since his fizzled out.
I think there’s gotta be fast/slow lines cuz mine will pin in around 10 days whether I case them or not. My first tub I didn’t even check on it for a week and half and it had primordia when I went to add casing.
I do think that the slower the growth the more potency thing is onto something in general.
