Me? yes, those are PE. I don't know if that will translate to peat being better with Semps, though. But it was for that PE test.

Ok! That is what i did. I forgot to mention the layer of coir on top. Sorry. It has been so natural for me, i didnt even think of it.
So the moisture/CO2 gradient may be the culprit in my case. More air... Since you said you mist, i guess you don´t hold your shrooms captive in a box with a lid on top, like i do. Check!
Oh I see! Well, my problem with a pure choir casing is that sometimes Subtrops will eat it all the way through to the top of the casing, then get damaged by being exposed causing overlay. I havn't isolated a culture that eats all the way through a choir casing yet, but I assumed that it was possible. It appears that you have found a culture that defeats the usefulness of choir casing in this application.
I suggest making a peat/verm casing(because peat cannot be colonized by subtrops) and trying again. Asura's Casing recipe has been a standard of mine for a while.
I originally was trying pure coir casings but mycelium began to eat its way through on multiple tubs to the surface. Now I am testing out plain vermiculite and it seems to be going well even after scraping the coir off.

Current state the furthest along tub. Several pins not visible among those that are coming up.

Sorry for cross posting questions.
Could these jars be right? There are not a lot of spawn jar pictures in this thread. But I did see descriptions that make me thing this could be just how semperviva looks if you let it go too long in the jar.
This is two weeks since inoculation:

This is heavily consolidated at just over 5 weeks:

So help me out here, please. I thought I remembered reading that one of the interesting things about this species it that the myc is active and blues.
I am also running Tamps, Jalisco and Galindoi so a mix up is possible. But I keep meticulous records and labels.
Maybe just badly contaminated or stressed. I went ahead and spawned two jars to a tub, so I guess we will see what we see. I am going to let the other jar sit for science. But I appreciate any input if anyone has seen jars look like this.

Here is some love!
My first try with Semperviva at day 12 since spawning.

(The previously posted tub)

After those were harvested these quickly grew in:

Such pretty little brown mushrooms, I'm enjoying having these around the house

Pretty sparse flushes but I'm just glad they weren't tiny. More than from under the casing on the substrate surface I've noticed many knots and pins formed directly from mycelium growing on the liner. Maybe I'll try with a slightly deeper plastic tub and a different casing for the upcoming batch of clones. Notably unique and powerful feeling from around 3 grams.

The effect is majestic, they have a clean and awake compound/presence to them unlike any cubensis I've eaten
They will be extremely popular and appreciated in time.

I was planning on fruiting semperviva directly in the bag by just stuffing polyfill at the opening... Do you guys think it is viable? (it works pretty well for cubes...)

I'm doing it right now as a test. I've poked the bag with a 21g needle at the base of the substrate and just folded the top. It just finished colonizing and I'll case it in about a week or so.

No idea if they will do great in bags, but if you do, make sure they have space above them, and don't stress about giving extra FAE, subtropica doesn't care about Fae at all, all my best flushes have been in low Fae unmodded totes with good space above them.
As for the overlay, the taste is okay. You can dry it into crackers. The blobs are the most potent.
Both sand, coir and vermiculite has worked as a casing

Have you found a pure coir casing works as well as materials less likely to be colonized? Even when using quite a think layer the mycelium grows to the top.
Anyone else think the dosing recommendation found here: https://www.shroomery.org/12516/Psilocybe-subtropicalis
should be modified? I know they're just general guidelines but these doses are pretty similar to cubensis and the potency of subtropicalis subjectively seems much higher than that of cubensis. 4 grams of subtropicalis completely hijacked my mind; felt more intense than double that amount of cubensis. With cubensis I usually find it takes much more for me than others to get a comparable effect although I'm not sure why subtropicalis would be different in that regard.

In my hispanica/subtropica thread you can see what I thought was hispanica but actually subtropica spawned from corn to coir, in mound like formation which is some old shit that went out of practice.
There was no traditional casing there
Tall containers seem favored with them, and low FAE is clearly no problem at all, minimum humidity seems more important.
I've always hand watered them too cause they easily lose a lot or moisture when going tall, and they've always been kept inside a bigger secondary container

After waiting forever (I am at 19°C)

Here they come! Any tips on how to make the best of the tub? These were spawned to coir/straw/manure and cased with cactus soil/verm 50/50 with a pinch of lime. Shall I mist frequently? I have restricted the FAE by adding micropore to the EZ dialed holes
Thanks!

Thanks to the generosity of Nichrome who sent me a print with what look to be promising genetics … I should be joining you all in a month or two. (And thanks to the advice in this thread I will definitely be taking a clone from one of these).

Hey guys,
how long do Subtrops usually take to germinate? It's been 4 days and both Bisporus and Natalensis are growing nicely, but nothing with Subtrops. Do they just naturally take longer?
