Interesting. I live is a dry place as well, but AC most of the time instead of heat. I am running a side by side of subtropicalis right now with substrates that are a little under field capacity and right at field capacity because it seems to me that the dry substrates are much faster to pins ime. So far, my theory seems to be holding true. The dry subs fully colonized and got cased in 10 days while the field capacity subs are well behind not having fully colonized the top layer yet.
But that is just a comparison of speed to pinning. Not necessarily best yields or potency (if slow growth does, in fact, affects strength). More to come...

Haven't posted it here but Semp pseudosclerotias:

Do you guys get them too?!

sure do .. but i honestly don't know yet what to make of them..

i like the way they thrive to get through the casing..
Yup mine look like chris77's. I just took it as side pins that aborted but didn't change color. Maybe I'll dig them out in a few weeks if my tub doesn't flush again.

WOW I see now what everyone means about how slow Semps are. I did spores to agar 9/22 and today the semp plate is still smaller than a dime.(couldn't really even get a good pic of it) The Machine Elf Spores I did the same day have already covered the plates and the T1 plates are already larger than the Semp Spore plate. On th bright side the 1 Semp plate is so clean I could probably go direct with it once it grows out. I won't of course but good start IMO
Just came down from a 1 1/2 gram trip on Nats. Can't wait to try the Semps.

Hi all, just wanted to share a picture. Got 3 of these shoeboxes with subtropicalis just popping up.

But it will be the last I'll be doing for a while, due to hardships I'm going through

You aren't fucking kidding. This go around, my fucking BOTTLE grows are going on two and a half months from grain I think (pints made of 50:50 spawn:coir, mind you), with two weeks to go still until pinset I'm sure; followed by two and a half weeks of fruiting - for what will be my longest grow of these I'm low-key terrified of the fruits from these this time. You gonna like these things...
On another note, I'd just like to say that this is absolutely the most satisfying thread to follow IMHO. You guys make me want to get up in the morning

totally agree with you. this thread has a great vibe..
i am happy to share this little moment of excitement..

spawned to bulk a month ago, cased at full colonization, but maybe a few days too early, given how they have colonized the casing.. hard to tell

Are you guys having them slow on agar too??
Mine have always been pretty quick on agar and grain. And colonization I guess. It’s just the 3 or so weeks from pins to mature that takes forever.

Mine have been pretty quick on agar and grains. And quick to pin compared to most reports. They do slow down from pin to mature and can wait a long time once the look ready before they show any signs of getting over ripe.
Still not sure if that is genetic or environmental, though. ime dry sub makes for faster colonization. But I will do a lot more testing before I die on this hill.

Got the ball rolling on some subtrops. Cold here still, got the room temp sitting @ about 58F. Probs 1.5 weeks away from spawning. The plan is to spawn to coir and fruit @ spawn without casing like I do with pans.

Side note: I still can't figure out why LC doesn't want to take on grain. All jars were inoculated 12 days ago. First two jars were shaken two days apart and had a top layer of PF-tek substrate which was left to colonize before the shake and the last one is just grain inoculated with the same LC doing fuck all

Well this is what I have so far. I did the original Machine Elf Spore Plate 9/22 same as the first Semp spore plate. I know the Machine elf plate has contam on edge but pic is for reference on growth rate. Both Semp plates are from spore.

My last runs from older agar never jumped off. I always thought pans were finicky bitches, but semps can be too apparently.
Just spawned a bunch under field capacity at a lower ratio then normal. Almost went for a pan cake style and may case.

- what they said actually
I have a jar from Angam's print that took only 10 days to fully colonize. I've straight cased it with cactus soil and put it into the JCM chamber yesterday.

Can the Agar make a difference in growth rate for Semps? I use 1% LME 1.5% Agar. So for 400 ml water I use 4g LME 6g Agar
