Got my Semp Print from RoscoReturns, put on agar 2 days ago. Nothing yet on the Semps, but the Machine Elf he sent me are already taking off.
Thanks Again

I’ve now gone back to spores to see if the trend continues. If it does, given the short shelf life of spores, these will have to be in continuous rotation for me. Storage of a culture may be problematic.
That is interesting. I have been dicing up a clean agar plate from a clone and dumping it in a media bottle half filled with sterilized distilled water. Then let it sit (shaking occasionally) until I need to start a new grain jar. So far this has worked for up to 9 months, that is the oldest that I have so far. I just started a new plate from a few drops from one of these to get a new one going. Don't know how long I can get away with this, but if it keeps working, it will be my go to for culture storage and expansion.

Hell yeah! Both Mojavemyc and RoscoeReturns hooked it up!
Currently have Mojavemyc spores and a clone LC on plates and showing early growth. He was also kind enough to give me a cut of his Melgo semp print, which is showing excellent clean growth. As well as RoscoeReturns (with a print larger than i was expecting for semps!) spores showing growth and successful germination on agar! Can't wait to get all these running! You guys rock!
Going to make some LC with the Melgo this weekend hopefully, then off to the races! Going to let Mojavemyc's and RoscoeReturns grow out more, but psyched for all of them!

(I'm very disappointed in the performance of this culture and I am currently awaiting some spores to geminate on a few plates.) The biggest fruit is almost a month old and still hasn't darkened and I don't see any spores dropping or forming. Any thoughts? Should I just harvest what I have or let them go?

I’ve always gotten these kinds on 2nd and 3rd flushes. The caps never seem to open up so I just wait until they haven’t grown at all for a week and then pull them. It’s so weird how long these shrooms will last without going soft or sprouting mycelium fuzz like other species. It’s like they just kinda sit and hang out indefinitely until harvested.

havent fruited much subs lately, have a 12 bag round in the works
only report is that I now have several experiences with subtropicals fruiting from old grain jars. Never well, but at some point it happens as on agar.

Glad we could get you right homie! Can’t wait to get home & get to work with your Pans
I spent the last week camping at a festival & spread the good word about semperviva. I brought some ~1g gummies and they were an absolute hit. Everyone loved them, even my mushroom fearing wife. She said it felt like a light roll. I was surprised by how gentle the experience was with dry fruits. The freshies scared me 1g dry was a very pleasant time.

Whoa, I recognized that canopy photo on the left in your signature from a reddit post I just found searching around the other day. What an amazing canopy of subtropicalis - I was staring at that amazing pic a long time the other day - now I see you have the same name here and there - nice to meet you I'll be hoping I ever get something even close to that.
Time for me to get reading through this thread and learn the tricks of the trade. May I ask how much work and how long you were working with subtropicalis to be able to get a grow like that? Do you attribute it to genetics, dialing in growing conditions, something else, or all of the above?

Thanks for the kind words. I’ve been growing semps for a little under two years. Lots of luck. Mycoplex & mycorry put me on to the idea of using plate pins to find easy fruiters. See mycoplex’s Cosmoplex thread. Then Baba Yaga came out with the pans in unmodded monos which led me to believe if I just ran them enough I'd find something that likes the way I grow.
I cloned the first mature fruit from my first tub, then waited for that culture to pin on the plate, did it a few more times. Then I ran that culture 6 times & kept the spores from the one with the best first flush.
1st tub + vendor pic

The clones
     <- the winner
The spores from the winner gave me 1-3. #4 is from a print taken from #1 so I definitely feel like I'm getting somewhere.

Mojave these are some great results. The clone tubs are amazing, but that third round is a home run. Thank you for that breakdown. It makes perfect sense. From everyone's experience, it seems like a lot of the genetics floating around are still VERY finicky with indoor conditions.
I burned out after reading about 100 pages of this thread . Two of my many plates are finally showing some progress. Can you give your grow basics? Spawn ratio. Sub composition. Casing. Hydration compared to other species. FAE amount. If these are explained in one of your earlier posts, please let me know and I'll just hunt it down.
How well did the grain jars themselves fruit? I would count a few grams dry as a win for round 1.

Much love growmies. It's been a blast learning with y'all.
@Jflowman the few ways in which my process differs from Melgo's are of little consequence. So definitely read that link! I prep my substrates rather wet for everything because I 1) live in a dry climate and 2) run a space heater most of the year, which dries things out even further. I case with fine vermiculite because until recently I couldn't be bothered to pasteurize anything
@ Melgo yessir! I get those on the sides of my tubs all the time. Just put your semps to grain yesterday, I'm hyped to run them side-by-side.

I have liftoff on the Semps. Hadn't seen any growth on the first 2 plates, so I did 2 more yesterday. Suddenly today all 4 plates have growth.
Thanks Again Rosco

Thank you for the responses. I'm really excited to get this one moving after reading another great report from Melgo's writeup.
I've decided to try multiple separate bags for this grow instead of having one big tub that wont pin. I have 4 different clean spore growth spots on agar right now that i'm going to run separately to increase my chances of the genetic diversity lottery. I might run a grow log, but we'll see. It will be incredibly dull with how long Subtropicalis can take.
