I like that! Grass seed started the same time as the spawn? Straight potting soil?

From what other members have posted about Semp's natural habitat, I'd say yes - because there appear to be mild frost there. But it might also depend about where you live in Froggy land I live by the sea, and there aren't many frost days here. I haven't been able to try tho' because I don't have a greenhouse.
V.L. is way more advanced in cultivating exotics and outdoor grows. I feel that his opinion on the subject would be more informed.

I have so far had just a small dose of semps, only 1 gram wet, which was enough for me to get some effect. It was an incredibly beautiful feeling and in my head, I was tripping in vivid detail. Music became patterns in my mind. The duration was very short.
I will have a larger dose in about 2 weeks. I also have Tampanensis and Pan Cyan on agar so of course I am very curious to see the differences once they are grown. And now my interest is piqued about Mex A. Did you ever try the fruits of Mex A or just the sclerotia?
My pleasure. For "Mex. A" just sclerotia. I have a bunch of fruits now, I'd love to try them and see if there's a difference - unfortunately I can't trip as often as I'd like (next time's in a month for example). I should mention it in the other thread when I come around to it.
@SirPsycho awesome!

Yes, the grass was started when I buried the cakes. I didn't technically spawn it, just left the Muda bottle cakes whole and covered in straight coir, no soil, no nothing.
I'm reconsidering the grass though. That little bald patch is there cause it started to get fuzzy and I didn't like it. I'm also seeing potential mold on some of the seed that didn't germinate in some pots. I also did use an excessive amount of seed though.
I'll try some clover in the next few pots but honestly it's probably best without anything like I had originally done outdoor pots

Interesting, I was literally thinking about this yesterday but for the sake of getting libs to fruit indoors..
Was thinking about pre sprouting some alfalfa or clover seeds and mixing in with the sub or maybe a top layer when spawning. I wonder if one could eliminate some of the possible mold your seeing, just need an efficient way of screeding out the seeds that don’t pop before you mix it in

If you want to minimize mold on your seeds soak the seeds in a mixture of pickling lime and water for a few hours then plant them in your substrate. This technic also works for the mexicana species and the galindois.

I’ve made a completely anecdotal observation. I had three bags of a semp clone, and cased them about 12 days ago. One I cased with my usual 50:50 peat:verm mix, the other two I cased with a peat:verm:sand mix. All the bags are all in the same tub. The two cased with sand have started to pin. The one without still looks like the day I cased it. I have a couple of other bags ready to be cased soon, I think I will try to replicate this and see if there reall is a difference. Anyone else with any experience in this regard?

I've tried a few mixes: peat/coir/sand/verm/clay, peat/coir/verm/perlite, sand/verm/clay and other mixes. The ones I cased with sand containing mixes are still not pinning (2+ months), peat/coir/perlite pinned slow with mutilated fruits (but it's also a treat of the clone), and straight peat gave the quickest pinning, but for some reason the fruits were tiny.
I baked some peat in oven (250c for couple of hours), and cased two newly colonized totes as well as those that didn't pin, we'll see what I get. All of them flourished white and ivory molds (looks like oven baking did nothing in terms of killing molds), but were consumed by myc afterwards, which is fine with me.
I think I will try adding sand again. I was hoping for verm/sand/clay mix, but it didn't work out. Peat/sand and maybe some clay sound promising. Still can't figure how to make a canopy with the slow boys. I bet dunking with right timing could do the trick.
That's it, maybe I should dunk before casing?

I held this cutie for more than a month, but it started bruising, so I picked it. I like the chonkyness and gracefulness at the same time.

Have you tried cactus soil? If not, I'd be interested to see how that works side-by-side with the above.
That said, these things seems to be on their own baffling timeline. I'm calling it "semperviva time." I'm currently running a couple trays that have been in the exact same conditions with the same (cactus soil) casing. One pinned in 10 days, the other two pinned in 30-40. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Right! It's just today that I found a grown pin on a 4+ month old cake (straw with millet spawn, cased after a month of consolidation with verm).
Cactus mixes that I have available are all shitty, mostly made of cheap peat with some additives that are not even close to normal cactus soils, so I had to make it myself, hence many different mixes, trying to copy some recipes and make my own as well.
I'll keep on trying to nail them slow boys
