With the extended wait before fruits, I'm seeing a faint tendency towards drying and matting out. Anyone else thinking about this and doing something?

I like to mist the surface regularly.

If it looks too dry. They seem to like it wet like tamps.
What did you case/top layer with and how? What substrate are you using and what kind of FC?

My last grow I just let everything go in shoeboxes, lids on (inside of monos) for about 1 month, then cased and took the shoebox lids off. First pin came a month to the day from spawn. I hand watered the casing when needed, every day or two or three. Kept it pretty saturated the whole time. I had very restricted FAE so it wasn't too hard to keep it wet.

Im running corn, spawned to shoeboxes with coir verm and chalk. Agree it looks dry, angsting about how to add water.
About five shoeboxes. Last run I cased em with sand.
Sounds like whatchu saying is "give water"

Yeah they like it wet. Doesn't seem to slow pins but helps with overlay.
I like to add some bentonite...

Does anyone here have any experience with consolidated subtropicalis spawn? I am spawning to a tub this weekend and one of the jars has been consolidating for about 3 weeks now; the second oldest about 1 and a half with the other 2 being freshly colonized. Do you think this will serve as a detriment when it comes to fruiting?
Thanks for the input!

The 3 week old jar was left over from a round or g2g. I ended up not using it for g2g. The week and a half consolidated one was inoculated with a small batch of LC I was testing out. It finished colonizing more quickly than the two I poured grain into about 4 days after using the LC. I have one tub made up using freshly colonized grain but I was going to do one more using these 4 jars. So just not optimal timing is the cause.

If it's clean it should be totally fine.

Yeah, actually I noticed a fairly sizable difference in fruiting time with my super-consolidated subtropicalis spawn. Like almost two weeks. Could be the cultures I've run, but seems like a good tradeoff if so. Running some now that I plan to consolidate for a while, actually...
As far as the misting/soaking discussed earlier, I have to agree they are real water hogs. They stop gaining size and just start to mature if they dry up.

Excellent! Thanks guys. I was worried it could be similar in that respect to Panaeolus species for no reason in particular.

It's really cool seeing people's grows of this species. I've only grown cubes but this is on my bucket list to grow. I've finally made a shroomery account after lurking for a few months

Got 4 of these t3's on barley aging nicely. This is from some days ago. They're starting to get veiny and such so they get spawned soon.

This is white rice. Pretty sure the mycelium on it's own is plenty strong so a psychedelic taco attempt will be made...

Spawned 5 days ago with some consolidated grain. I'll be casing this with some coir, on the dry side of field capacity, in a couple of days.
