You can put a couple which sporulate for printing, and leave others. I'd vote for leave them be, but it seems you've already decided, good.

Here's further proof that FAE is the key to good spore production. Third wave of slow genetics (spawned around november 22). We can see the fruit near the air port is sporulating. Others do not, I've put two fruits for printing and got decent results in 12 hours with the big one above the lower FAE port.

I was disappointed with my last bag, only got a cupful of fruit.

I took the sub outside to bury it in my flower garden. It must have had a hundred full size fruit being resorbed into the cake on the sides. I moved my tubs upstairs to make room for guests, and that changed the environment enough that they liked the sides better than the top. I’ll have to make some adjustments for my others.

I've been wondering if it might help to mimic the CO2 content/FAE changes as the mushroom would go from pinning to mature fruit in the wild. When pinning occurs, it seems to happen under dense vegetation in rich soil, which would produce low FAE and high CO2 conditions. But as the pins grow up further away from the ground, they encounter higher FAE and lower CO2, and potentially higher humidity because of evapotranspiration. So maybe a low FAE scenario during the first half of the fruiting cycle and increase FAE to get the caps to mature?
Maybe the odd looking fruits are a result of too much FAE early on?

So I made ten grams of those into tea. Six hours in I’m still not right. These fresh are so good.

10 g fresh is about 0.9 dry? thats amazing Roscoe. the potency of these sempervivas... glad i will be able to try soon and see for myself how they compare to cubensis and natalensis

Yeah I’m excited to try this slower/big cap line.
Here’s the second “flush” from my fast ones, they’re a few weeks old now. One quart spawn and 21g dry first flush.

Some stray, random observations to add to this thread....
This is all for the faster growing lineage, I have yet to experiment with the slow one...
On cultivation:
- Semp myc colonizes grain faster than any of my cubensis genetics. (I have used white millet and milo.)
- Re: consolidation. Once spawn was fully colonized in jars, I combined with 100% coir, a little less hydrated than for cubes per advice on this forum, at a ratio of 1:3 spawn:coir packed tight at a height of 3.5in. When consolidating, I had half of my trays covered with plastic wrap and two were open in my fruiting chamber. The trays that were fully covered consolidated faster, with thicker whiter myc, and are now pinning faster. It's been a handful of days and no pins in sight on the others. It's been my best pinset yet, so maybe covering while consolidating helps with pins coming in less staggered -- time will tell.

- My automated fruiting chamber has a fan that I set to go on for an hour, off for an hour. The result is a lot of FAE, and so far my fruits are pretty darned big. many 5-7" tall, some with pretty meaty stipes.
- My most successful grow (in the process of duplicating it now, and if it's as successful I'll probably make a journal) yielded 1 oz dry per mycoquart. I was thrilled with this, and it was only the first flush! Second flush is on its way, looking strong...

On potency and trips:
- A group of friends went morel hunting and each took a gram. They had a great time and definitely felt effects but they were still able to function and they all loved it. LOVED IT
- It blends into a denser powder than cubes. I'm able to jam .2g into a #1 capsule. This is way too much for a microdose, in my opinion, so now I have a bunch of capsules that I can use.... 1 for a nice body buzz and pick-me-up, 2-3 for a museum dose, 4-5 for a concert or forest walk.
I have to duplicate my results a few times yet to make sure what I'm jabbering about isn't a fluke, but once that happens I plan to write up my observations and process.

I’m not sure my tub is going so well. Spawn to sub on the 9th of April, first pin showed up in the 2nd of May.
At first I cased with verm alone but about 10 days ago I sprinkled some coir on it as well because I was worried the verm was drying out. Since then a few pins have shown up on the surface but I am mainly getting them just along the side, literally forming on the plastic of the tub.
The first pin I found is now starting to open but it has remained tiny.
I have 6 more quarts of spawn that were g2g from this same ms inoculation, so I need to do some trouble shooting as they are looking ready to use in the next week or so. Possible problems in my mind -
Sub too wet (it was slightly below field capacity but now as I’ve been spraying to keep the surface moist in not so sure). So this cause also could be maybe having too much FAE and the surface appearing dry while the sub is still plenty wet?
Casing - I’ll get some peat or cactus soil for the next round
Impatience - maybe I have the slow kind that’s gonna take forever but as I saw pins in a month I’m not so sure about that. I got these from Yoshi amano and I believe they are originally from Captain Future? Doesnt really explain why I’m getting mainly side pins that would literally rather form on plastic than the casing.
Any pointers from anyone are massively appreciated

Hi, Telomere! Try peat, it worked better and quicker for me. Verm was the worst in terms of pin quantity, coir at spawn was the best, but the longest as well. It just takes aeons. Some of my grows gave side and bottom pins, and consequent flushes were fine on an upturned cake. That's not much, but that's my experience working with these genetics.

I get those pins on the plastic when I case too late. Try applying the next one right at 100%. When I do it after spotting pins, they take a while to fruit from the casing while the OG fruits mature

Just cased the 25 or so buckets and trays, which were spawned around 19 days ago, (mentioned here)
3 trays, and one bucket didn't smell much like mushrooms, while all were colonized to surface. Cased them all with non-pasteurized mix of verm:coir, 1:3 ratio. (I'll use these bins/trays to find a good clone candidate, and hopefully when the fruits appear, at least 20 clones will be taken, as I've already prepared the plates out of impatience. Don't jump into my decision of using verm for casing. I just want the pins. Haha. No fruit will be eaten off of these substartes. I should wait another 2 to 3 months to harvest the fruits I like )
Can't wait anymore. It's been around 3 full months or so I'm working with this semps.
BTW, I've put them into fruiting condition just now, hours after casing. Is it ok with this species? iirc I read somewhere that's the drill with semps.

Something I would like go share in this thread, as subtropicalis was the first mushrooms I genuinely felt this cosmic unity, sense of awe, bliss and love on a 2gr internal journey (heck, this mushroom is considered 'THE' magic mushroom.. e.g. CaptainFuture.. who probably tried them all) . And I do not belong to any religion at all, but I'm almost finished reading 'the matter with things' and it seems psychedelics break down the brains function of 'filtering' consciousness (which is apparently not yours or mine.. ). I feel it's such a beautifull thing I need to share it with you guys. It seems that the right hemisphere can contact that which lies beyond all measure, time and space.. and the high dose psychedelic experience resembled near-death experiences or the last 24h prior to death where people's awareness broadens (as the brain deteriorates).. or e.g. some strokes in the left hemisphere (jill bolte tailor - a stroke of insight). Here Ian McGilchrist about that which cannot be described, hope it resonates or at least sparks your enquiry if you haven't felt this before on subtropicalis. Before jumping to conclusions, just watch it untill the end, it will cast a red mist for some.. it did for me.. as your missing a lot of context of the book here (over than thousand pages) working up to this. But those who had this experience, will feel this resonate to some extend. So just listen with an open mind..

Thanks for sharing this, homie. It has certainly resonated with me & has inspired me to read the book. Much like others here my curiosity about this species was piqued by report after report portraying these as *the* spiritual mushroom. I had no idea what I was in for, a beautiful thing in a way. But those experiences were the first times I felt myself scratching the surface, knocking at the door that leads to more.
