The Ambrose lineage takes around 4 months to pin for me. You're good.

Subtropicalis. Only 5 months? You got about 13 to go then.

I gave it away as a gift so hopefully you are right.
My main complaint now is that in my experience subtropica doesnt abort like this
It has not matured a single fruit without abortion
No other subtropica has behaved like this
Also note the white thing
Whats that white ring thingy, the_chosen_one

Are you referring to the fairy ring or just the patch? Likely just the way it was spawned.. hard to say.
You're right about the aborts. IME subtrops rarely abort. Very rarely. The only thing I've seen abort at that level of maturity is Zapotecorum. I was a bit hesitant with the ID at first because those look more like Zapo stems.. but the life span wouldn't quite fit as Zapo's tend to be shorter lived. They still look like Zapo stems though. Which, Subtrops can have stems like that, but usually not so pronounced and it does have to be a more natural environment. You can see it in the base of some of these..

Here's full grown Zapo aborts..

A better look at the stems and unopened caps.

Mature..

Have you handled Zapotecorum or Papuana lately?

The more I look at them the more I have to agree. I'm gonna change that to Paps or Zaps.. being Paps will probably eventually be Zaps anyways lol.

need help to decide please. gotta leave town for 5 days these have just begun to change color slightly (caps getting slightly darker, less orange) harvest them now and put some to print, or can i wait (which i would prefer). they have taken a while to reach this point, they are slow.. but as i dont know them yet of course would i like to keep them from dropping all the precious spores in the box.
whats your take? thank you

I would say pick them now, they look mature enough to me.

thanks!! my question is rather if they will "degrade" if i let them go on 5 days ..
if i were to pick them, rather keep them 5 days in the dehydrator (wich will automatically stop after 12h) or keep them in a paper bag in the very cold fridge??

I say either let them sit the 5 days or pick and put in the fridge. I wouldn't leave them in the dehydrator for 5 days of it's not running the whole time. They will absorb moisture again if you left them in the dehydrator.

I vote to leave them be. The pics above are 6 days apart, before & after my last vacation. Spores were visible when I left so I was worried about letting them go too long. Don't sweat it

Wait. Most of those aren’t showing spores yet. Five days is nothing for these.

Leave them. They have plenty of time, easily 5 days.
