Here's my first shoebox of Subtrops, they pinned about as fast as cubes for me, but yeah they take forever to mature.

Just the standard 50/50 with some lime and gypsum

Hello friends. Well, guess I'm in love with these.. but i have a question or two.
There are several spots like this one in 2 shoeboxes. big specimens and many later ones forming little clusters together.
from experience with Cubensis and Natalensis its easier (and sometimes the only choice) to harvest them all at once. is this also true for this species or is it better to just take the caps from the big ones and let the rest continue?
i know we are far from harvest time here and i am fascinated how slow they are moving. i will certainly give them all the time they need.
happy sunday everybody

I personally don't sweat it and harvest it at once. Not worth running the dehydrator for 5 fruits anyway

Definitely easier to harvest all at once. You might be surprised how many can catch up, though. These stay nice for quite a while once mature. Even when the spores start to drop you can leave them for a while before they start to turn blue and squishy.

Cased four bags today. Two more colonizing substrate. This mix has about 10% sawdust added, just to see what happens. They seem to like it so far.

I have two bags fruiting. Due to a temporary relocation they are getting very little light. This must not be ideal, as they are fruiting very sporadically and the fruits that do come up are growing all sorts of directions. Without the light they don’t know which way to grow.

Is your grain to sub 1:1 on those bags?

No I only use a pint of spawn per bag. My substrate has some grain in it, but I end up about 1:4 or 1:5 grain to sub.

Yesterday I took 2 icecubes (5gr fresh subtrop tea) to the cinema, guardians of the galaxy. Was pretty intense on that dose, also there is some animal cruelty in there and some repulsive stuff in there, that put a damper on it, apart from that I was too high to follow the jokes. But, it did leave a warm after-glow, very nice! But yeah, I would go lower next time, just in case someone was thinking about doing this on subtropicalis, here you go.

Lol you know it’s good when you’re too gone to follow a plot line or get jokes.
You must have the slow growing version I assume

So does anyone want to trade a super potent slow ass culture for a super fast unknown potency one? I let my original culture dry out when life hit me so I am looking for these that 1g=level 5.
This comes from a clone I have been offered. It pinned in 9 days +-

Amazing culture. Will try them this weekend and Ill report how potent they are.
EDIT: also looking for the classic phenotype of APE with the grey/black tops

I still haven't heard back from anyone to whom I've sent dried cultures. They all either don't have time to put it on agar or just.. idk
So I still have no idea if it works. I wouldn't be confident sending the Ambrose culture like this at all. I need some confirmation that this works.
It's so frustrating when you send amazing cultures and spores to people who don't value it. I know I shouldn't bitch about it, but I've just seen it way too many times. Sorry for the rant.

I have mycelium regrowing from dried agar plate, which was going to throw away. Just transferred a wedge from it to a new plate, mycelium faced down. Its growth started around 2-4 days after transfer. Didn't check it often. Species is semperviva. Agar plate was dried for at least 2 months. Will snap some pics tomorrow, late night now.

I've revived dried grain from another member before. Usually it takes 3-5 days on soft agar. I've also shipped some international and it worked for them as well. If you want I can try and give you a report.

That's the worst! I've been waiting almost 2 years on someone to grow mine out and someone here did it in a few months and retired it.
Dried agar/grain works really well, especially with semps. I've basically kept my line alive from dried chips of agar.

Oh on that topic, I took both you tamps and bisporus to fruiting but the bisporus ended up contaming and the tamps never fruited. I still have colonized jars and lc so I will try a jcm instead soon. The prints were pristine though, the fastest clean germinating spores I have had in a long time
So what about sending non dried water agar? Seems to work for me. although some get squished, they are still recoverable

I recently revived some dry semp grains from faht. They did prove to be more difficult to revive then cubes but I was successful. My success rate was 40% grains revived, compared to my cube revival rate of 100%
