Last year when straight casing fulling colonized grain, I got pins 9 days after casing. Is it the same for you?

Thanks! Couldn’t have done it without all your info, and I think my spores came from you via a third party.

I really wish I was getting pins in 9 days, but all of my grows have been on the slow side. Three weeks or longer for pins, then the fruits take forever to mature. I’m pretty patient, have lots of things going on, and really love the look of these so I don’t mind the wait too much. The bag I harvested yesterday was spawned on 3/5. Some of that is due to temps. Grow room is right around 68-70 all the time through the Winter, even my cube grows are slow, but these are on another level.

Thanks Roscoe! For the detailed background links and the quick anecdote. Those fruits are some of the best-looking I've seen. Those came out of a fruiting chamber/tub - perlite? Poly-filled holes? Or the only air exchange/humification is 2x/day with misting? I ask because those look really nice, want to hear more about your exact fruiting conditions. Also do you think you get benefits from your climate?

I had phenomenal results with P mexicana using the FC setup detailed by elfstone, which i thought produced perfect conditions for all mushrooms but...we learn once more!

All my bottles and bags just sit in a Pasty EZ dial tub with the lid on. No water or perlite or anything. I try to keep the tub as full as possible to keep the humidity up. Once I have pins I only open the tub twice a day to mist, no other intervention. I do keep the tubs next to a North facing window. They get lots of indirect light. They seem to like it.

Thanks for the explanation! This Pasty EZ Dial tub is new to me, I'll check it out.

Also wanted to share some research I put together on fleshing out the natural conditions these fungi grow in.

I was so tickled when the Mushroom Observer locations all matched up to the same narrow USDA Plant Hardiness zones.

Edit: I can't seem to upload a PDF. Here's the USDA Zone Map. Anyone have any suggestions on uploading a PDF?

So, finally someone else also tested the Ambrose Subs.

I gave some to a friend's friend. He ate 0.5g with some B. caapi, so Psilohuasca essentially. He said it was pretty potent and sometimes a bit dark too. Overall he liked it and had nice afterglow.

It's a shame that he used the MAOIs tho, from a scientific standpoint. In any case, they are potent as heck.

sounds interesting. i dont know which culture i have... but they certainly take their time. they look so ready to knot up and pin, and they progress, but really ... very..... slow...
which I actually like <3

These are kind of how my fruits are looking. Little more sparse. Guessing more FAE to get the caps to open up more?

What do you grow them in CocaineBuffet?

I am growing them in a mix of traditional coir/verm sub with some pasteurized Hpoo mixed in with a pasteurized casing with straw.

I am thinking since the deepest sub has the most fruits that the smaller containers are too shallow. Thoughts?

Edit: I would like to take some prints but I am not sure if the most mature fruits are able to drop spores to take a print or if I should harvest them and swab them as these next pins are coming in.

Would someone be willing to quickly summarize the best approach?

Sounds like a substrate on the dryer side/squeezed to field capacity, and lower FAE like in a monotub is best.

Given the low FAE requirement, is it still the standard fan/mist/high FAE to initiate pinning? Or is it more just put it in the FC and in 2-6 weeks you see pins eventually?

Moopers and Melgo have great info.

Melgo’s semp tek

Moopers’ semp info

I’ve been trying a few different approaches. My favorite is inoculating bags with a bit of grain spawn and sealing them up until 100% colonization. I open the bag, case with 50:50 mix, and put it in a tub. Wait. I don’t fan or mist until pins. After growth I mist twice a day to keep the caps from curling up. Seems to help getting prints from them, although they are not the easiest to print.

Hi Roscoe,

Sorry for the late reaction, had some other things going. But basically this is what I do too. In bags and pop them in a 100L EZ dial (I did add perlite to fill up the space). .

I wondered if you could says something about the following;
- what is your grain:coir ratio? I go for 1:2 but maybe I'm overdoing it spawn-wise (I add 2 pints of spawn to 2L of sterilized coir)
- How thick is your casing? I try as thin as possible but maybe a bit thicker could help.
- Do you slightly compress the bulk and/or casing? (I compress both a bit)
- Bulk slightly under or right on field capacity? (Here under)

Hope you can help out, I like to to reproduce these results, but I only had 2 bags like that (no clones, I have clones going right now.. still waiting for pins). Could have send a pm but maybe others would like to know too.

And.. do you use a bag-in-a-bag like freshprints? I had some massive side pinning with Nats lately, as I pulled the top of the bag along the side so I can reuse the bag.. but in doing so probably disrupted the mycelium and air got in. Sorry for all the questions, just love to know!

It's very kind of you  I'm so glad this write up helped a few people.

They look very different from mine tho' - way darker and the caps super different. If you could PM me who you got your print from, maybe I could try to find out in my PMs if I sent a print to that person. Just out of curiosity.

It's odd for the speed as well, because they enjoy 68-70°F / 20-21°C. I grew a bucket this winter at 63°F / 17°C, and that was a f*cking drag  17 days to pin (which isn't bad), but 40+ days for fruits to mature and they didn't even drop spores!

But yeah, the 9 days pinning time for straight cased grains was at about 74°F / 23°C.

Interesting! But also hard to determine anything (apart from the potency) due to the MAOIs.

I've never grown them in shallow containers yet, so I can't say. If there's a lack of FAE, in my case they grow spaghetti-like. But what you have here is very different. We haven't seen much of these here

As for taking prints, yes swabs are usually the easier route.

Oh boy….

I’m coming down on a trip from these puppies and it was pretty great. I could give a long detailed description of the journey but in this case perhaps brevity is the best approach:

I just spent anywhere between 10 seconds and 3 hours examining the patterns on a roll of toilet paper. It was great.

Ok, on to some other details…

That doesn’t imply anything negative about feeling bad and needing a trip to the bathroom.
In fact, the opposite happened. My body was pretty achy from a hard day of yard work, and after the trip I feel pretty physically renewed.

I took 26g fresh, made up of about 5-6 hearty fruits. Cut them up, sautéed with garlic, spinach, and some home-brewed hot sauce with ginger and ghost pepper.  It was a delight! These mushrooms have so much fibrous  body to them with no flavor. Delectable!! I wish I would have taken photos of the finished product but I just gobbled it up very quickly.

Here are the shrooms that I was sampling:

I attempted looking at them under a IV light. I can definitely see it by eye, but it’s harder to capture by camera. Look closely at the following image and you can see the green parts in the middle of the cap.

I can’t emphasize enough how delightful this species is.

26g fresh? do you have a tolerance built up? should be a massive hit otherwise..

Oh yeah… it was a big one. Waves are still hitting me if I’m being honest…

That said I don’t currently have a tolerance built up but I’m a bigger person and for whatever other reasons I tend to need a healthier dose than most people.

I definitely don’t want to underplay the potency of these suckers. It was a doozy trip.

Happy to hear everything went well! Hope to do a massive trip this year.. planning on 3gr dried, preferably 30gr fresh in the form of icecubes (I'll make a concentrated tea form the upcoming flush.. still pins at the moment).

I'm getting to know a neighbour who also has some experience and is more into cannabis, spending a night in nature opens a window of opportunity, can't wait!
