I tend to keep the casing rather wet at all times. Heavy mists in the morning and night does the trick for me. Granted even with a heavy mist substantial drying happens between mists. Not to the point of bone dry but more of a dry damp if that makes sense. Not enough water for pooling though, but each mist grants a well saturated surface.

Was digging through some old plates and found some plate pins and transferred them.
They only took 6 months to pin. 901 is a germ plate from a melgo print on 2022-07-25.

Place dropped to the 40s while I was away, they don't care.
My print used to pin heavily after being disturbed on agar. Haven't seen it in awhile.

Maybe THIS time.
Went way drier on the sub and it colonized quickly and maybe these are knots.
Cased and misted pretty heavily.
First time making my own pasteurized peat/verm/lime/gypsum casing instead of using the jiffy with coir.

Spawned two tiny trays of semps and bagged 'em. One tray shot out an early dude and that's it. Other one has a few nice clusters that are smaller slower fruits. Should I spray to try and get sproulation?
Been running a bunch of clones and tried to germ a better print, but nothing so far.

In my experience, sporulation is just a function of age, not moisture. That is, assuming they aren't overly dry. If the are wet enough to be happy, keep conditions the same and just wait. It can take 1-2 weeks from full growth to sporulation.

Xico shoebox and mono have tiny pins, I think? They're quite chubby! 15 & 16 days from spawning to bulk. Sub is all coir + 10% CaCO3 by dry weight, 422% hydration, bucket tek. Mono sub was squeezed hard, shoebox sub was not. Both have a top layer of coir to cover the grains and a thin casing of peat/sand/verm/CaC03 pasteurized at 164F for a few hours applied at 100% colonization. Millet spawn with a tiny bit of gyspum and half water, half weak brewed tea. Spawn was inoculated 8 December, so they'd been consolidating a while.

Spawning Melgo jars today. Cross your fingers for me!

10th time lucky. I think that I am as proud of these pins as my very first cubes. In 9 previous tries, I managed to get one of my top fruited jars to produce three pins and one plate to pin after 6 months. But today I am handing out cigars.
I am convinced that the reason that it worked this time is that I was way over hydrating the substrate until now. So after reading moopers compendium, this time I followed Fresh Prints and Melgo's leads and squeezed the bejeezus out of the coir so it was well below field capacity. In fact, I put the coir in a brewers bag and twisted and squeezed until I couldn't get any more drips. The result was almost late for casing in 12 days and pins three days later.
Here are way too many pictures in case it helps anyone else struggling with these.
Spawned 2023-01-21 but forgot to take a picture.
2023-01-25 the coir already looks too dried out, but myc is popping, so I let it ride.

Congrats on the success ReverendMyc! I just spawned a shoebox with 1qt spawn and 2qt of C/V slightly under field capacity and have it a thin top layer. This is my 2nd attempt at semperviva 1st attempt with a new print that produced some way better looking mycelium on plates and grain.
