That’s a nice tub. What’s in your substrate and did you have it at, under or over field capacity? Any advice on printing?

Thank you guys! I appreciate you folks here for helping me learn about this lovely species.
Substrate is just coir & vermiculite. I prep my substrate on the wet side. 1:3 with a verm casing applied at 90%. My last 5 tubs have been the same clone; I had to swab the ones I misted heavily, and got light prints from the ones I misted sparingly. I’ll report back in a few days if I get good prints from this one.

Thanks for the info. I started caps printing yesterday. I put 3 drops of water on each cap after putting them on foil. I’m leaving them for 24 hours.

Hey guys, haven't really been growing in awhile but I have 4 bags of semp going right now.
Looks like you guys have made some breakthroughs and I just want to make sure I understand them.
Basically, you want minimal FAE and a casing layer that is not overly wet, correct?
I was just going to grow the whole things out in bags. I have mine shut with clothes pins and was just going to cycle air every now and then. Really doing things pretty lazy as I don't have a shit ton of time.

I was suprised to find an Enigma like gill mutation (snip)

That's crazy it does this randomly. I had some bags I thought were contaminated that sent nasty looking fingers up the bag plastic and fruited at the ends a few inches above the sub. Fruits were all squat weirdos. Wish i kept the bags longer looked like the old jars.

Less FAE will give you long noodly fruits with tiny caps. I have had good success with a lot of FAE (growing them in a tent).

24 hour print with a couple of drops of water added. The other are much paler. I’ll wait a bit longer the next round.

I find Semp hard to print, especially when trying to print a lot of them. But here's what I do:
Quote:
Melgo said: I've managed to get prints a third time by doing this:
- Mist Semp mushrooms caps until they change color - once in the morning, once in the evening.
- Wait until they start to drop spores.
- Wait a few more days.
- Day of printing : mist caps until they change color.
- Cut cap, put on foil, put a drop of water on the cap with a syringe, put a shot glass over the cap, or put foil + cap into a very small glass container.
- Wait for 12 to 24 hours.
- Voilà !
Right after misting:

Couple of minutes after misting (they seem to really absorb the water:

Printing:

I really think the misting twice a day encourages them to drop spores. It worked for me with 3 different clones - in about 20 days after pinning. And doing so, I never got the super curly caps. Hope this help someone.

Some failures... .. made the hole size on the EZ dial of a 120l tub too small.. enlarged them from 8mm to 14mm.. scraped off all the casing.. all pins.. dunking now and will recase.. again

I think this is a very good system. Preloading the caps with water before cutting them is a huge help. With cubes and pans I’ve noticed that the thicker/larger caps seem to have enough water in them to continue to mature and lots of times I’ll get third and fourth prints that are darker than the first two. It seems like once a certain amount of water is lost the whole cap shuts down and immediately starts to shrivel up even with tons of spores left in it.

Thanks for all the advice. I waited a few more days and added water to the caps while they were printing. Better results.

That's a super interesting explanation! I've never tried for 3rd & 4th print. But I guess I could have done it with "Mex. A" & Natalensis. Not with Semp tho'
Here is another Semp clone in a bucket, fruits are 41 days old, I cut 3 caps for printing (but not much hope here) and they're not bluing, they're black! I'll put a mention on the vac seal package to be careful with dosage on this one

I’ll be giving buckets a go soon. I think this is pretty good for a 1/4 pint cake. My cap harvest dried down to 5%. That might have been because I was hydrating the caps to drop spores.
