The timelines on these is so strange.
I only grew the one tub so far but they pinned quicker than anything else I’ve grown. I saw the tub was 90% colonized but I was expecting weeks for pins so I didn’t get around to casing them for a week, and when I opened it to add the case it already had pins.

Oh really? I cased them right when I noticed they were near 100% colonization (of the surface). I was wondering if I should have lrt them go for a few more days, but decided to case anyway.. happy I did that. Hope you still get a nice harvest a.k.a

That's wild - I have never heard of them pinning so fast. I would hold on to that culture!

My jars that I left sit for 7 months pinned uncased three days after spawning, the sub wasn't even fully colonized. I don't think this really counts though as they were already pinning in the jars. The tubs exploded though after. There is clearly a HUGE effect on pinning times the longer these are left to consolidate. Under normal non aged conditions this culture typically pins in 17 - 20 days. Something weird that I didn't expect either is that all of the other spawn I generated using these 7 month aged jars begin pinning similarly fast (5 -7 days after spawning, sub not fully colonized but close). I only took a little from each jar back to agar then dropped the pucks to new spawn. I didn't expect this quick fruiting to still occur.

Now to find the ideal consolidation time to speed pinning without holding onto jars for 7 months. My Melgo jars are 90% colonized and Xico like 30%. How long would you suggest I try consolidating? I usually do a week for cubes/nats.

Went to avatar on 0.5gr of subtropicalis, 1st half of the movie was a blast. Made tea.. drank before entering cinema, come-up was in 5-10min. These weren't that strong as I did notice some visual distortions but nothing crazy.. wouldn't go higher than this though. After first half we were already coming down.. way faster than expected, so we struggled through the second half as the sounds were too loud. Could be because we ate a burger right after the tea (not going to do that again it made us feel nauseous). Definitely recommend this for shorter movies.. but 3h is just too long.. apart from that cinema was crowded which also didn't help, normally is it deserted.

Interesting. You have similar experience to mine then (except the extreme potency). Fast come-up, didn't last long. Might be something to it.

Well I blame the burgers.. will retry though without burgers. had 2 small burgers each. Was a bit hungry as I went for a light meal, vegetable soup with a 1 wholemeal bun. 18.50 - tea 19.00 - burgers 19.05 - walk to cinema (friend was coming up already) 19.10 - seated (stuff started to kick-in) 19.30 - movie started 21.00 - break (coming down.. was able to navigate my way to the restroom just fine, crowd didn't bother me too much.. bit wobbly) 21.10 - visual effects almost gone, afterglow started and the noice in the cinema became too loud. Brought earplugs with me, but decided to just let it ride and close my eyes a bit.. also felt a bit ill, runny nose, this did not help (a bit under the weather now)
Never had this trip ending this abruptly, so I still blame the burgers, will do tea next time too, as it kicks in as fast a lemon tek (made the tea 1 day in advance, with citric acid & pitch of ascorbic acid and some ginger) and eat a bit more in advance.. no fat, doesn't combine well with the acidic tea (the acid & ginger did cover the mushroom taste very well)

I think knots are forming.. still very early though.. hope this will result in some nice looking fruits.

Same clone in all 4 boxes. Ran 1 & 2 wet, 3 & 4 dry. 3/4 are in a different shoebox than 1/2, and got much more FAE as a result. Judging by the crispy fruits on 3, a bit too much Do you guys think that might be why they're so tiny? 2/3/4 finished in about 30 days, #1 took 48. #2 began to pin before I got around to casing it, so I let it roll. 1 was cased as knots formed, 3 @ 90%, 4 @ 100%.
Thank you guys for the tip to run them on the dry side. Though I've got some adjustments to make, #4 gave me my first prints from this species. Still had to swab the wet ones.

I left a plate of these go since 2nd transfer over a month ago. I was hoping for a plate pin to clone to ensure a fruiting culture. Over the last 2 weeks there is a rusty looking growth that seems to be getting knots on it. It's this normal before a plate pin with this species? Sorry about pic quality is hard getting good photos through HG plates. And don't mind that it has pan bisp on the plate, I can't get the marker off completely when I reuse them.

I've had this "rusty" color appear in my agar plates. It never meant plate pins afterward, never meant contamination either. I don't know what it means tbh:

I've had only one agar pin, and it took 6 months for it to appear:

I've fruited it, my EZD is about to be ready to harvest, but these fruits are just as skinny as the agar pin. Not a good clone candidate imo.

Ok I'll send the plate to some grain tonight then. No sense waiting that long for a pin unless it's in bulk.

Hm, I hope I'll have some nice fruits from my EZ tub. Already noticed the first 2 pins appearing.. knots here and there. Won't be a full canopy.
I'm also going to get myself a garden soil sieve as I noticed, despite my best efforts to break it up, I still tend to get fairly large chucky of peat in my 50:50 mix.. maybe prep it much dryer than field capacity and spray it down.. maybe that also helps getting a better microclimate and hopefully more pins

To me it just looks horribly contaminated. I've never seen it before tho.

I was not hoping to hear that but if it is, it is what it is. Now I would love to go back to spores but I used the last of a super faint print to get this going. I hate asking but, anyone got a spare print? I am willing to trade with what little I have to offer. Please pm me if anyone can spare a print.

Subtropicalis mycelium does all sorts of color changes with age. It looks like some of the colors I get running mycelium teks. Some pages back, Nichrome posted a jar of well aged mycelium that looked supremely funky but was actually ok. I'd guess your fine if the rest of the agar looks clean and passes the sniff test.
Good luck!
