Yeah I get it mushrooms doing mushroom things and acting like mushrooms. I've learned to be patient with doing this. My melmac is on its 2nd month after spawn and still on it's first flush. It's just so hard seeing all the beautiful harvest on here. I just want to try all the different species.

I have my Melgo Sub germination plate fully colonized. Primordia forming quite fast as opposed to my other cultures. I think I'll wait for a plate pin and clone that. Or maybe not. Not sure yet. I'll definitely be throwing Rocky's culture (no offense Rocky, this is nothing against you I still greatly appreciate you sharing it with me).

I somehow have never seen this thread so I’ve got a lot of reading to do. Sorry for asking you so many dumb questions about semps @Hindsight but I appreciate your patience
I’m hoping to put some semp to agar in a few days so I’ll keep y’all posted!

Hindsight said: I can't confirm Adas' comment about mycelium aging out quickly since I haven't tried going back to older germ or xfer plates myself, but I can say that the prints are much shorter lived than other actives we grow. 6-12 months seems to be the lifespan. I had a print I used just once, got good germination and growth from it, had to abandon that grow and go back to the print only 4-6 months later and the print no longer worked. The print was probably a few months old when I started.
I would like to add to this that I failed to germinate a zap print that 'used to' germinate in 4 days, the print was at that time 1 week old.. 1 month later.. dead.. I even added sterile water to hydrate the plates, some with a bit of extra water to hydrate spores.. let them sit for a total of 4 weeks.. no germination! Even another fresh zap print total age also around 1 month.. nothing.. absolutely nothing. Also tried to germinate my subtropicalis print van captain again.. age unknown, but the last time I germinated them was a month ago.. 16 plates going. also seems to be all dead by now.. have been sitting for 2 weeks, doing nothing. ... So...
Got myself 100+ cryo vials, the very first thing I'll do when I manage go grow subtropicalis or zapotecorum to maturity is move to a massive amount of agar.. germinate loads of spores. and store the diversity all in vials with distilled water for future projects. Still feeling really stupid about this.. I assumed the zaps prints would still germinate after a month.. for me.. they did not.. really sucks.. got 8 more plates going >1 month, tossed the other 20. Still feel bad about it.. also because I'm letting the people down who made the effort growing them and sharing the prints

Dont feel stupid brother. The "spores last forever" propaganda is still going strong somehow. Yes they may last forever in a vacuum and/or absence of radiation, but we don't store them that way. Heck, my Cube spores were completely dead after 2.5 years. Stored in the dark, room temp, 40% RH (approx).
I'll also be ordering cryovials shortly as well as experimenting with dry mycelium storage. I've recently managed to clone a Serbica gill fragment from dried specimen. The tissue wasn't old but it shows the method is viable.

The differences in cultures seems to be very apparent. I'm on F2 and it's more of the same. Plates and grain look great but sparse flushes and long time to fruit.

Even with cubes spore shelf life is all over the place. I’ve had 4 year old prints germ in a few days, and recently had two varieties be completely useless after 4 months.

I'm so close to tossing it. Didn't I send you like a 1/4 of the print? Can't keep track. I'll take a 1/16th of a better print.
My initial MSS gave me the best flush. As I've isolated, printed, and cloned plate pins I've really lost vigor and bio eficency. Granted I moved from neglect to straight physical abuse.

Rocky I can't remember if I told you but I did get some grows off your print. They were slow to fruit and didn't produce full canopies but they were the first semps I ever fruited. Thank you for sending me the print!
Here is one shoebox from your print:

If you are looking for another print, let me know..... I have one other semp line that is fruiting well, and am growing out two more now which should be printed within a couple months from now.

What’s an approximate timeframe for semps from spore to harvest?

They be wild and all over. Let's say add a month to your normal grow.

That's ok, I'm overwhelemed and have other projects that need attention. I'll keep ya in mind after things slow down.
Caerulescens and cyans are my current fixation.

I had some that were as quick as about 30 days and then some others I harvested the other day that went about 7 weeks! I think somewhere between 48-50 days!

I spawned this tub 30 days ago. I check it today and I see the mean green has moved in. Plates and spawn were really clean and everything looked great until this morning. I'm not sure what went wrong. Is there a chance this will fruit or is it trash.

Moopers said: My 2020 print from Alan R. hasn't germinated 18 days later, but no surprise there.
Below is a Xico (Veracruz, México) wild print germ plate, PDA + antibiotic. The myc cleaves closely to the surface of the agar, and isn't very organized. I was unsure that this is the myc I was looking for, but it took 7-8 days to germinate, is slow growing, and hasn't changed color or done anything else weird in 15 days. Either the myc is a slow contam or this is a very clean print. These pics are from day 11:

Transfers are looking more organized and fluffier, but still not as fluffy as other pics of the species on agar I've seen here. Transfers are to PDA agar, no antibiotic, which may be why the growth is more organized.

Thoughts? These look OK/like the real deal? Anyone else started a wild print of subtrop?
Waiting on germination from Melgo's print on PDA no AB, only been 3 days. Will be interesting to compare!
Update: growth on the germ plates of Melgo's print looks the same. Must be these pre-poured agar plates I bought from a different vendor.
I'd like to start pouring my own but don't have a flow hood. I saw SirPsycho recommended some autoclavable petri dishes. I might pick those up. Anyone have a tek for those, or would any no-pour tek be easily adapted to them?
Here's what it's looking like on grain, kind of like tamp myc.

That's trash homie. Sorry for your loss. If it were like only in one corner and you were only a day or two from harvesting I'd say let it go but it hasn't even fruited yet...toss it

That is the wild subtropicalis print (Xico - Veracruz, México), correct? Very interested in what the fruits wil look like.. if they are like 99% we've seen pass by.. or that you'll have something that will resemble the pictures from The_Chosen_One (from 2008). Good luck Moopers!
