It's not a matter of getting enough sunlight, it's a matter of when you start getting it. Your hormones: melatonin, cortisol, testosterone, growth hormone- all increase and decrease throughout the day in a day in response to environmental stimuli. The modern environment can throw these off easily, but it's a mistake, in my opinion, to think that for some people it's simply "normal" to stay up until 4 in the morning and then sleep late into the day (past adolescence).

at least half of the time when I meet someone who tells me this, the cause ends up being sleep apnea. There are a number of other things that can be going on but ultimately the fix is just to try sleeping at the right times, and that requires forcing yourself to wake up so that you're tired. even if you're not tired by nitghtfall the first night, if you keep doing it you will be.

spits ultimate truth right here

I used to have a " sleep disorder".  I was a druggie with fucked circadian ruthym and sleeping hormones etc

I was actually thinking about this while taking my shower.

The orientation of the medical system is kinda fucked at this point. We are being steered in a direction where we are all victims of something else and need a drug or must just suffer. Whereas almost everything can be helped, and often eliminated with good habits.

Morrow knows his shit when it comes to health. For the most part.

I hate the medical system. The reason people have sleep problems now is because of smartphones and because of light pollution. So instead of fixing the root issue they just give you a damn pill to make you go to sleep. Most everything in the grocery store is all processed and have high sodium and high sugar. Instead of sensibly regulating the amount of sugar and sodium a company's shity food product can have, everyone gets diabetes and high blood pressure and then they need to see their doctor and get a fucking pill for it.

I'm literally a representative of the medical system telling you that I think you should just try waking up when the sun comes up. I never mentioned taking pills. I'm sorry you perceive that other medical personnel behave that way in your experience. From our perspective, it feels like patients ignore the preventative health advice we give them (exercise, eat fruits, whole grains, vegetables, legumes, and fish, get 7+ hours of sleep every night, don't smoke cigarettes, don't drink excessively, etc.), and then get mad when the solutions the doctor has to offer them aren't perfect.

During a routine physical examination, if you're overweight or obese, your doctor will let you know. Your doctor will also let you know what your weight category places you at risk for, and will discuss strategies for losing weight, or help make a referral to someone who will. Rather than being grateful for this, many people take offense at it- 'How dare the doctor say I'm "obese"?! How rude!'- and may even avoid going to the doctor thereafter to avoid perceived judgment by the doctor.

The doctor is not judging the patient. The doctor is simply stating a set of medical facts for the patient to consider. Many patients simply are not ready to consider them.

Fast forward 20 years, the obese patient has been skipping physicals for 20 years, and has a mild stroke. After stabilization at the hospital, the patient is told that they now have stage II hypertension, and will need to start taking blood pressure medicines to prevent themselves from having another one.

After taking the BP meds for a week, the patient finds that they have difficulty getting an erection, and feel tired all of the time. "Isn't there a better soluton?" they may ask the doctor at this point- to which the doctor can only respond, "The same solution I offered you 20 years ago."

In reality, some doctors are indeed pill pushers. This is especially true of certain specialties like endocrinology and pain management. There are certain instances where doctors overprescribe to people who don't need meds, as with antibiotics and viral illnesses- but the reasons for that also involve the patient. Patients expect the doctor to provide them with a solution or they may not return. The viral illness will go away on its own but if the patient thinks the medicine cured it, they're more likely to listen to the doctor's advice when it comes to preventable/treatable diseases that may actually kill them. Not saying this justifies it, but it isn't just that doctors don't give a shit about antibiotic resistance and make extra money from prescribing amoxicillin. Psychiatry certainly has its own issues with overprescribing. For the most part doctors are not prescribing meds for medical problems unnecessarily. Doing so is technically considered fraud.

Maybe there should be more regulations on what companies can put in food, but doctors don't have the power to change that. All they can do is try to tell you how to navigate a world filled with unhealthy food in a reasonably healthy way. Which you can do, in fact, do.

I read your post. to be honest I have always hated fucking morning time. No matter how much sleep I get I'm fucking dead zombie before 10 am. The only time I like morning is if I've been doing drugs all night long and the sun comes up. I know you mean well but I seriously can't wake up early if my life depended on it. I know once I get my biochemistry degree like a million years from now I'm probably going to have to take a 9 to 5 job but at least I'll be getting paid enough to make it worth it.

can't speak for others, but if I don't get 7-8 hrs of sleep I'm ready to murder the next morning, which isn't ideal working customer service.

I probably prefer being asleep to being awake honestly, and not because I hate life I just love sleep

Yep, me too. I need a full 8 hours of sleep. I can manage with 7 hours but even with only 7 hours I feel like slight shit. Any less than 7 hours and yep I'm ready to fucking murder anyone who comes in my path. I've always hated mornings so I love to sleep through them. My body wakes up naturally at around 10, 11 or 12. I feel the best when I wake up naturally without an alarm. 6 a.m. what the fuck? If I could sleep forever I would even though that would make me dead I don't care I would love to be able to sleep forever.

Yes, yes, and yes!

Same with nutrition dude, I deal with it with clients ALL DAY. Nutrition impacts not only hormone regulation, but also regular biological processing that compounds and impacts your entire body from digestion to blood flow to ability to rest.
