Hello everyone, and thank you for the load of useful information about mushrooms cultivation.
This is my first time growing. I started from a spore syringe (bought from a shroomery sponsor) and self made agar plates.
I have prepared and inoculated 4 plates in a SAB.
After 6 days from inoculation this is how they look:

Are the white/yellowish dots contaminants or spores growing? I'd like to point out that those dots are present on all 4 plates, on the center of the plate (where i placed one drop from the syringe) and about the same quantity in all plates.
At first i would say that it is a contaminant, as it doesn't look like any photo I have seen on here, but the presence on all the plates, etc made me wonder.
The plates have been keep constantly between 71F and 75F.
Thank you.
Alex

bacteria my friend
try again, flame the needle, and I like to drop a drip onto a loop to streak it
make sure its only 1 drop when using spore syringe, a little goes a lonnngggg way

Spore syringes are known to be a good source of contaminates and it looks like it is from the syringe in my opinion. This will always be the case as the spores are not sterile. But this is not normally a big problem as we are working with agar and we can move a section of healthy mycelium away from contamination onto a fresh agar plate. I suggest on your next go, make a few more plates to help increase your odds of success. If that still doesn’t work order another syringe. And like Camera93 says just a drop onto the agar, there should be 1000’s of spores in a drop, flame needle until red hot then squirt a tiny bit out to cool needle down then one drop onto the agar. Shake the syringe really well before using!
What is the recipes the agar you used?
Good luck!

Thank you for the answers.
I will try with a loop instead of a drop of liquid to inoculate
I noticed now that one of the plates have got something looking like mycelium growth, that started from a section infected with bacteria. In my next plates should I use the syringe or a piece of the growth from this plate?
The agar recipe i used is:
400 ml water 7.8 g of agar 12 g malt extract (the creamy brown substance) 10 g corn flour 6 drops of blue food colorant

Let it grow out and see if it looks good. If it does yes I would suggest cutting a rice sized section off its leading edge as far away from any contamination as possible. And transferring that piece to a new plate. Then if you are serious let it grow and once it’s covered 30/40% of the plate transfer again. This will give you the best chance of it being clean and not harbouring any contams. Ideally get as many pieces as you can, to further your chances of success. Then you can use the best looking one to see if it’s a good strain, or try all of them and see which performs best.
I would use less malt 20g per 1000ml is what I have always worked it out from. You don’t want to provide too much easy food for the mycelium is how I understand it.
