Our winter garden 1

I love growing and harvesting medicinal herbs and my fiance likes gardening. I notice she tends to be happier when she can work with her plants, so I suggested an indoor garden. Well, we started it, and it is going well (considering there's feet of snow outside.) I'm growing a few medicinal herbs, while my fiance is growing seasoning herbs.
I got 2 Klip Dagga and 2 motherwort seedlings growing. The Lemonbalm I got back in spring and took it indoors, and we just trimmed the whole thing back to almost nothing, so the growth you see is just like 3 days of regrowing.

Cool man
If you throw a cheap LED, or Fluorescent shop light on them, they will grow even better for you

Thank you! I have like a red/blue light and a small florescent. Do you mean the Klip Dagga or all of them?

You're welcome!
Yeah, they could all benefit to some degree from an extra light source

Yes, I took your advice. I have a red/blue light with 3 light sticks so I put one on each of the klip dagga (but not blocking the sun) then I put one light below for the Lemonbalm. (which wasn't getting any sun.) The motherworts mother plant was wild harvested and I found it in a shady area so I'm hoping it keeps growing with just the morning/afternoon sun.

They seem to be doing better with the extra light already. I actually used the blue light overnight last night to maybe help keep them warm. (We live in an old house with shotty insulation.) So far they've survived temps as low as 60 degrees, which worried me since the Klip Dagga is from Africa.

60 is fine for any plant in the world as far as I know. I grew out an 8 foot tall dagga one year, and it got some cold nights in the spring too! It never even phased it either
I'm glad everything is thriving for you my brother

Thanks man! Thanks for the information also! I just couldn't find much online about it that's why I was worried, but I'm glad you have knowledge on the subject. That's awesome you grew Klip Dagga, this is my first time growing it, and it's growing indoors ... So do you use these herbs or just grow them because they're exotic? I'm a little confused on that.

No problem man! I have grown out most everything that you can imagine.
This being said, I have tried most all of the exotic herbs and plants that I've grown one time or another, and over 90% of them never did anything for me including Klip Dagga. Regardless, my psychonaut days have been over for well over decade, and now I only grow my plants for their beauty only.
Occasionally I'll partake in something new, that could help with my anxiety and depression, but the only drugs that I consume recreational are Cannabis, and occasionally some poppy pods in the spring when I grow them out, and that isn't every season.I also have a mushroom trip once every few years or so,and before I found my ovoids this year, I haven't tripped in at least 15 years.
But actual herbs that don't give you a high or buzz I definitely try to consume, when I grow them, this is why I like your thread. I might just find the right combo that could help with my sleep, depression, and anxiety all in one
On a side note, Klip Dagga gets huge, and will never flower indoors, sadly. If you can keep it alive until next spring, you need to put it out in the ground or you'll never get flowers or seeds. Just a heads up

Thanks! I'm planning on growing some more in the spring when it comes. I can help you with a blend, do you know how to make extracts? Some herbs are not noticeable in their pure leaf form. I currently make a blend with motherwort 5x, Chicory resin(CNS depressant), Chamomile and a little bit of 10X Cali Poppy (Like 0.05, or 50mg.)This blend for me is comparable to Clozapam. I make my extracts in Everclear, (I'm not too keen on chemical solviets. )
Even if you tell me "I got this this and this for anxiety" I can help you come up with a blend. I'm pretty skilled in blending and making effective herbal medicine mixes, if I do say so myself.

I know nothing about making extracts or any of that, but yeah, that's awesome that you can do those things!
Maybe I can look into making extracts, and find my own special blend that works for me

Yes! I can help! It's really easy. You just need a mason jar, everclear (or grain alcohol,) coffee filters and strainer (strainer is optional but helpful and can be bought at Dollar Tree)and a pirex dish. You can do warm extractions in a day or cold extractions over the course of a week. But I would highly recommend doing that because you don't need to ingest as much at a time... In example, I can take 1 of these capsules rather than 5 motherwort, a chicory cap or two and a california poppy cap I make it strong enough that taking 1 capsule is like taking all of the above.

Well, I can get ever-clear, and everything else you mentioned. So yeah, I might start trying to make all my own extracts

Here's a garden update. They've all gotten visibly bigger.

Thanks man! and thanks for the advice! It was something I was thinking about doing but it took you saying it to push me over the edge and do it.. But yeah, the Klip Dagga is actually growing in all types of compost; Apples, pears, kiwi, coffee grinds etc. because I read that they like that.

I compost all my coffee grounds, fruit rinds, eggshells, you name it! Plants love that stuff

Yes! We have compost piles outside buried that we'll be growing Klip Dagga outside in next year. I just just wanted to grow some through the winter. I'll be happy if I grow some decent sized plants, even if they don't flower. I just want some leaves to smoke on.
I'll probably do an update every week or so, hopefully in a month or two I'll have a decent klip dagga bush... On the subject, do you know how well they tolerate pruning?

Right on man! and yes they will grow nicely indoors. I just think that they grow much too large to be able to flower, although I'm not fairly certain of this.
Do keep us posted though, because I've never seen anybody attempt to grow one indoors before.
Also, I pruned the heck out of mine to make them bush out instead of growing tall and spindly, so prune away once they get enough foliage, and can handle it
