Side pinning questions
    #27067526 - 12/02/20 03:48 AM (3 years, 2 months ago)

Hi,
I’m new to growing Magic’s and I set up 3 tubs, one with Transkei, then Mazatec and also golden teacher.
The Transkei one unfortunately contaminated and had loads of side pins... I moved the cake into a larger container to allow the side pins to form into shrooms better.. which worked..I had to throw it out though due to the contam....

Now I have the other tub, the Maza.. which is pinning on top but crazy pinning... again on the sides...
why isn’t it recommended to remove the cake out of its tub and place into a larger container with perlite and regular misting so all the pins have a chance to form well... do I leave it in the original tub, and why?
I understand I could break the cake and stuff it up... is that the only concern?
I tried to search all over the net to find the answer on how to save side pins best but can’t find it...
And yes I didn’t use liners... I know. I will from now on 😊😊

It is not clear at all what tek you are using.

Assuming PF tek, then its cakes in a SGFC.

It's absolutely normal for cakes to fruit on the sides and shouldn't really be a problem.

If not, then its because of inadequate fruiting conditions due to not following a tek or doing so improperly.

You should tell the TEK you are using and put some pictures

Oh I’m sorry, this is my first post 😊
It’s a monotub and the top looked really good...
Lots of droplets and full colonisation.

It’s not letting me view the pics.  Click on pics up at the top. Then click upload. Choose your pics and upload them. Then copy the link and then post that link.

Use a liner. No more side pins.

Thats not a cake, its a shoebox.

Make sure the lid doesnt allow too much FAE, it can happen on shitty/cheap shoeboxes.

A liner wont solve unproper fruiting conditions.

You will almost always have sidepins on secondary flushes.
