The meth heads at my work cut the ceiling material of the truck and tuck their meth pipes in it, it apparently is a decent hiding spot despite being obvious.

The used truck market is really overpriced right now IMO. What kind of truck are you looking for? 1/2ton or 3/4-1 ton? 6.5’ or 8’ bed? 2wd or 4wd? Regular cab or crew cab? Gas or diesel? $7k will buy you a decent running/driving truck, but it’s going to have well over 100k miles already, which is when problems start popping up. Parts are generally more expensive for trucks, depending on the model and production quantity. If you’re handy, and can wrench whatever you possibly can yourself, that’s a big help. If you’re in the rust belt, you’re going to have a really hard time finding a truck for that amount that’s not already rotting. You may want to shop online down south, and buy a one-way bus ticket to buy something clean. Working underneath a rusty undercarriage is no fun. Do a lot of research, as there are certain engines and transmissions to avoid. Fuel mileage varies a lot as well. My truck gets 11-13mpg, while my Brother is getting 20-23mpg. Trucks are really versatile, especially if you plan on staying in construction, and possibly branching out on your own as a contractor. I have a $6k Buick that I drive whenever I possibly can, but I love my truck and couldn’t imagine not having one. I plow snow with it in the winter and make a little dough on the side with it as well. Good luck!

I used to drive a ‘98 Ram 1500 with the 5.9L V8, it had 184k miles when I got it, whipped that thing for a couple years, put probably over 3000 miles on it and never had any major problems, although it ran like a turd in the wintertime.. then again I never did anything to it, I barely even checked the oil kinda treated that truck like shit but it never left me stranded

I traded it for this ‘95 4-banger Tacoma a few months back, it didn’t come with any maintenance records or anything of the sort, but it purrs like a kitten and I knew I wanted it the moment I saw it
It’s about to hit 175k miles actually, had about 172k when I got it.. I’ve driven the fuck out of this thing the past few months and the only really bad thing that happened was when the tie-rod snapped in half, I replaced both sets of those as well as the lower ball joints (which are both something you need to check on any used truck you’re considering buying) and haven’t had any major problems since.. these old trucks are known for having the frame rust away but the frame on mine is pretty much rust-free, I live in a high alpine desert though so this particular truck probably hasn’t seen much foul weather in its time on the road..
Looking back now, I would say if you’re thinking about buying an old used truck, make sure you can actually afford to fix it if/when it breaks because chances are high something will break eventually, also make sure all the fluids are at the proper levels and don’t look super nasty/old.. make sure it starts/runs/idles good and doesn’t blow smoke out the exhaust or do anything crazy, you can tell a lot about how a vehicle’s been treated by how the engine bay and fluids look.. also make sure you check the suspension components, at 150k+ miles they’re bound to be worn out.. my truck still needs a lot of work for it to be totally sound but I fucking love it, made moving a hell of a lot easier for me and just comes in handy in so many ways
