NEVER SEEN THIS BEFORE
    #27067674 - 12/02/20 07:44 AM (3 years, 1 month ago)

Hey everyone hope you guys are doing well... I was looking through some of my recently inoculated wbs jars for any signs of contam, and realized what I thought to be amazing colonization, might actually be contamination instead I was hoping you guys could help me out.... you can see around my agar wedges the mycelium is weak and dull but heathy nonetheless but recently the growth has been extremely accelerated and looks incredibly rhizmophoric... I also noticed an undesirable amount of condensation collecting.... any thoughts before I waste possible time/money?

That looks like healthy colonization to me, but there are a couple spots that might look off. A sniff test is probably the best way to check, honestly. If it smells funky, toss it.

Thanks, I think you might be seeing some of the marker I use to label the jars ( found out real quick turquoise was the worst color)

All of them have signs of bacteria and I see some pink in the middle photo which is never a good sign.

Those look way over colonized, like cakes almost.

Definitely a little bacteria but I’d still spawn them.

The pink seems to be from the marker.

Over colonized nonetheless.

He said his marker was turquoise besides it is clearly on the mycelium itself.

Edit: ah i see the marker in the 3rd pic. I mean the 2nd pic right below the
agar wedge has what appears to be a bit of pink mold. Could be wrong though

I notice the pink in the middle picture as well, looks pretty suspect, I guess it could be from the marker but it looks to me like it's inside the glass

Are you guys talking about the spot right up against the big swoop from the logo is?

I’m not seeing any obvious pink.

I’m fascinated at what a controversy my shitty marker erasing skills create, but if anyone could fill
me in on overcolonization and what to or how to prevent it and or fix it? Yes I used both blueish green and red marker... shoulda just stuck with the original black 🙄

Spawn it to a sb. What's the worst thing that could happen, you grow mold, so be it just dump it and start over. If it does fruit then you get some mush out of a shitty jar.

Over-colonized just means you let the colonization on the jar go for too long. You can use the spawn as soon as it reaches 100% of the grains after a shake or two, no need to wait for it to become a solid block like this because you're going to have to break it apart again.
That said it'll still work and aside of all the colors from your markers (wipe it out with alcohol before taking a picture?) it looks fine. Just go ahead and spawn it.

Tha bacterial nature of the spawn has been mentioned already. Seems op is more concerned about overcolonization than the likeliness that their spawn is crap from contam

How is no one talking about the pink/red dot in the first pic!?!??!

Just kidding, all could be marker in varying stages of being wiped off...

Def bacterial. Could still spawn if you wanna...

Posts are up in this same forum under “ I think I may be on to something”  I actually couldn’t be happier with my results so far, idk what it was that changed how the mycelium was acting but it definitely could have played a factor in my results... please check em out and let me know what you think!
