Can colonised BRF Cakes be stored in the fridge short term before fruiting ?
    #27067509 - 12/02/20 03:05 AM (3 years, 2 months ago)

Sorry for the Noob question, I have just started my first P Cubensis grow and realised my timing may be very poor as I’m not going to be around to mist and fan during fruiting.

I inoculated 7 BRF Cakes about 1 week ago and they are colonising nicely, they are probably 80% colonised so I’m guessing they need another week to fully colonise and then another week after that to consolidate.

This will mean consolidation will happen sometime between the 14th-18th December. My problem is that I need to go away on the 25th December for 2 to 2.5 weeks so I will not be around to mist and fan, harvest etc through the fruiting process based on this time line.

Would the 1st flush finish Within 5 to 7 days after initiating fruiting conditions ? Meaning I could at least pull off the first flush before I go away on the 25th.

Or would it be possible to store the colonised/ consolidated BRF Cakes in the fridge for the 2 weeks While I am away to stall the process. Once I’m back pull them out and put them in fruiting conditions ?

Or will breaking the process and putting these in the fridge for 2 weeks damage the mycelium and they won’t  fruit.

I thought I had read that with Wood Lovers you can store colonised grain in the fridge to stall the process, I wasn’t sure if same could be done with P Cudensis ?

Thanks for your help and looking forward to any advice that can be offered.

I dont see any really good reason for doing so. As long as they are not exposed to FAE (which would lead to pinning) they should be just fine for 3 weeks. You could even store them for a few months.

Eventually mycelium with loose vigor over time, so for long term  storage (more than 6 months) cold termperatures are best.

3 weeks isnt going to change anything

How would you rate the quality of my answer?
