What's "oats mixture"? How did you get it not to contaminate after spawned?

It looks like you're getting hyphal knots already.

read as "mixture of 1/3 spawn and 2/3 oats"

That part I got, but why are oats being used as a substrate to be spawned to and how did it not contaminate in the box before the myc from wbs+verm took over?

Sorry about the confusion with the spawn/mixture.  The WBS was fully colonized when I mixed it with the oats.

I used this TEK to prep the oats.

https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/24126032

It is a Cambodian strain that seemed to move pretty fast.

I'm assuming you did grain to grain then? Colonized WBS to sterile oats on jars, AND THEN after everything was colonized you put that in the box?

Otherwise you got it wrong, oats are supposed to be spawn as well and should be sterile, they're not supposed to be used uncolonized in a box mixed with other spawn like WBS.

Although your box look like it's colonized with the right mycelium all I see are oats. Did you really mean not to use any bulk substrate? Like coir?

The oats were sterile when I mixed them with the colonized WBS in the shoebox.  For some reason I thought I could get by with out adding Coir.  Is this salvageable or should I just mark it as a learning experience?

Right, the moment they touched the box they become not sterile and breeding ground, anything in there could then grow in that grain. Grain to grain should be made from one colonized jar directly to another sterile jar. You really lucked out here by having the mycelium take over it before contaminations did.

It looks to me like your box is about to pin though, if those are really hyphal knots. So wait and see if they become pins directly from your grains -- it's possible. I wouldn't try to do anything right now because if it's really pinning any changes might cause them to abort.
