HillBilly First Flush Monsters
    #27065962 - 12/01/20 09:04 AM (3 years, 2 months ago)

I haven't had too much of note to post up lately, but have been busy grinding. I started some MS grows in mid summer and have been working fairly exclusively on some clones I took from those first flushes.

This beauty of a culture is tentatively labeled Hillybilly Clone #3, or HB3. I took I think 3 viable clones from one little 12x12 tray. One kinda fizzled, Two just fruited fairly normally, but Number 3..well, suffice to say it came out of left field.

This pic was like 2 days ago. These fuckers are massive. I didn't do a bunch of isolation on these clones purposefully. I wanted to leave some diversity in there, in an attempt to be more precise in the quest for a workable monoculture. I dont know about you, but I cant read mycelium like the Matrix. I'm gonna have to actually see the woman in the read dress, not just lines of code.
IIRC this clone was taken from a chunky, but normal sized fruit. I thought it looked neat because it was shaped like a perfect little Smurf house. I cloned it completely on a lark.

Anyways....The flush is ongoing. It's coming in at a gradual pace. The ones I've harvested so far, I cut off the block with a foraging knife. LOL. Glad I made that impulse buy last month. That large cluster you see on the right (above) and with a lighter (below) clocked in at 106g wet. I'm printing the cap and took 2 clone samples...

They are drying beautifully too. The first few I picked, including the cluster, but minus the big cap (its printing) dried to almost 21g. The big guy in the middle here is 6.6g by himself...

When I got up this morning a few more had filled out and I felled them. Any guesses on what this tray dries out to be? I was in a hurry so I didn't get a wet weight. My guess is easily north of 40g.

This saga is still unfolding. I'll definitely keep you all updated on the doings and happenings. There's a few clones from my TidalWave grow that are still yet to debut, and if this one is any indication, there will be some interesting porn in the future!

Right on, may I recommend cleaning the sub off before drying? Once it's dried, the sub gets really imbedded, unless you like coir and verm on your diet.

I get most of the easily brushed bits off first, but I dont like to man handle them that much fresh. I have better luck not squishing it into the mush, drying it, then brushing it off with a soft bristle brush or just my fingers. If verm is embedded its typically because it was grown over or got pressed in when wet, not because it dried on it. That's my take anyways.

*edit* I can also report that it's much easier on the shrooms removing embedded bots when dry...you wont wreck the alkaloids bruising to to hell. I dont know if it helps prevent it, but I use a pretty large grade verm. They use it for insulation in some places. Comes in a 4 cu.ft bag.

Mileage may vary, and you may have a much gentler touch than me. Whatever works best...

I'm not sure if it's a secret or if it's why they're all coming in good,(other than luck, obv) but I saw how big the first pins to show were looking, and when they got about "fat thumb" size, I spot watered them with a syringe and distilled water.

Not sure if that made any difference, but the fruitbodies are definitely well hydrated.

Also, this was spawned with a top layer, then I lightly scattered a casing over it when the colony started showing primordia (white dots).I always do that though. I also spot case after harvest/rehydration. That's just me though.

HB3 Update [Re: fahtster]
    #27067352 - 12/01/20 10:31 PM (3 years, 2 months ago)

So I found a pic of the original clone specimen for this culture. Glad I had uploaded it to the pic thing! I would never guessed that that little Smurf Studio would put out these Mama June looking mofos.

The tub is still chugging along. The veils are hanging on for all it's worth. I want to let em fill out to take a couple more prints.

The big cap print...

A couple months ago, I was playing with the last bits of spore syringe with HB and 2 others. The others were blah. The HB toughed it out and pulled thru. These popcorn boxes are what I was thinking of doing as Xmas presents for friends. I've fruited them inside a Unicorn bag. I thought it was a good idea, but folks didnt seem as enthused as me. Just like the other cultures of HB, they were nondescript. These little fuckers have flushed 4 full times. They are pinning with flush #5. The sub has shrunken by probably 40%, but they arent quitting. Its pretty cool

That tray pictured above is finishing up drying. Not quite cracker yet, but I'm still sure it's well over 40g.

I've got a 66qt of this culture ready to pin any day now. I tried to get a picture of my casing approach. You can kinda see the method, keeping it open concept rather than a blanket coating..

I'm definitely digging this one. I'm hoping the clones I get will narrow this down to where I'm getting more or less all like that big cluster. It's close.

I cant wait to see what the various Tidal Wave clones I cultured pop up with. There was 5 different ones in play. I got a preview of #5 the other day in a boot box. It was crazy thick, but not 100% coverage. I also wasnt a huge fan of the pheno. That's the fun of it though!

Thanks bud! That's a fucking trumpet you got in that pic! This sub is straight coir, verm, and some pelletized limestone for flavor. I do a one-step whole oats for grainspawn. I use the same prep on white millet for masters.

I used to use CMC coir, but since my return, I've only used coir verm, which I'm digging so much more. It appeals to my distaste effort..lol.

I'm pretty pleased with how this one is shaping up. I hope the 66qt does the same thing and this wasnt just a fluke. I g2g'd all the spawn for that one from one jar. This tub here was done with 3 of the 4 jars made from the same plate. The suspense is terrible. I hope it lasts.

The tray I pictured above weighed exactly 40g when it finally dried.
The flush finally filled out. I'm going to rehydrate and hope for 2nd flush versions of those first round fatties. Even if it comes in same size, that's a win!
