Cryogenic stasis for agar plates...
    #27065788 - 12/01/20 05:26 AM (3 years, 1 month ago)

Hi folks.  First and foremost a big thanks to the community at large. I'm partway through my second successful grow.  My first was done by multi spore syringe innoc. but after reading so much praise of agar I gave that a go.  It has worked beautifully but I have a T3 plate I want to preserve.  I've read that refrigeration should do the trick, however, I don't want to explain to my kids, guests, etc. why I have a petri in the frig.  The freezer would be far more discrete since I have a chest freezer in the garage.  I am familiar with bacterial and mammalian culture techniques that allow cryogenic stasis like addition of glycerol.  I couldn't find much on the topic of freezing and reanimating myc.  Please advise.

I think you need to use a slant with a bit of wood in it if you want to go to the freezer. The reason being, the mycelium can get deep into the wood before you toss it in the freezer so it may have a chance to protect itself.

Don’t know if the freezer is safe for cubensis. It isn’t safe for all mushrooms.

Cube myc survives the freezer, at least on grains. I've tried that with Muda bottles. Fruited like nothing had happened.

Thanks for the replies.  Good to know cube myc survives the freezer on grain.  I guess I'll need to just try the experiment and find out if reanimation is possible from agar.  I am looking forward to trying an outdoor grow of some wood lovers, but for now I'm just trying to get my footing with cubes.
