I haven't actually tried that. Black willow bark I know is a sedative, and skullcap. I looked up Magnolia though, and it is supposed to be really good for sleep.

California Poppy contains no opiates at all However, it does contain some interesting sedating alkaloids, so they say.
I never got anything off of the California Poppy before, but I'm not saying that is doesn't work, it just doesn't for me.

Yeah, I found blue lotus extract didn't do much but thin my blood. I did 5 grams of 25x extract sublingually and just felt my heart get pissed at me like when doing too much opiates. Felt absolutely nothing.

I grow my own California Poppies. i notice no "high" off of it at all, but it definitely sedates me. 1 500mg (half gram) capsule and about 1/2 of a joint of it (with CBD hemp) will knock me out in 15 minutes (with or without melatonin. )
Lotus I have been working with for a long time. I notice slight color variations and a chill, talkative mood. Lotus is best mixed with other stuff.. IE, Lotus + Kratom with make a more vicoden-like painkiller than Kratom alone, or I personally just made a resin blend of Mugwort, Lotus, Passionflower (all mildly psychoactive) with lesser amounts of Lemonbalm and catnip to enhance my green and make it go further, and it seems to work wonders. I'm sure it may even get you some type of high on its own.

So, I grew out some really nifty California poppy varieties this season, and actually I do recall trying some as a matter of fact, and I did notice a slight sedation, I forgot. I think I might experiment more this next season, seems like what I need for my sleep problemos
How is passionflower? I have tons of that growing every year. I made a pleasant tasting tea from the flowers one time, but it was just a good tea, and nothing more.

I would highly recommend California Poppies for sleep.
On the topic of Passionflower; My cousin actually bought property to open a campsite that had Purple Passionflower growing. I got ounces upon ounces. The actual flower and marijuana gave me CEV's when I first started smoking it. Passionflower is good for anxiety, although I've heard bad things about the effect on your liver. I think they say not to exceed 3 grams per day. But it is psychoactive and anxiolytic.
This is what I got from that trip down to TN...

Very nice man! I just eat the fruits if I can get at them before the squirrels do, but I like the idea of the cev's when mixed with cannabis and smoked, so I will try that out next season
I wont make a habit of it, if it can mess with your liver though. I may do some more research on that aspect of the plant, before I indulge.
I like this thread, very informative

Thanks brother! Me too! it's nice to meet you guys for one thing. The other thing is, I eat, sleep and, breathe herbs so I think my fiance appreciates me talking to you guys instead of talking her ear off about it. Lol.
They do sell 25X passionflower and stuff, so I assume it's pretty safe, I just go easy on it for that reason..They also claim there's cyanide in it, which others still say is bullshit. I've personally ingested probably over 3 grams in a day and never exhibited any symptoms of cyanide poisoning.

No problem man, I love this place
Where else can we get all the good advice that we need for our love of plants? I'll tell you, nowhere else that I'd ever want to be
I did read about the cyanide in Passion Flower years back, but I don't know if that is a true statement.
Your fiance might just get a little jealous and miss you talking her ear off, if you stick around here long enough, hehehe

Dead on! I'll even google things and it will refer me back to Shroomery one way or another lol. My fiance doesn't care about the details she just want occasional Ephedra, Kratom and, Ashwaganda capsules lol. I am still teaching her stuff though, and we go out together in the spring and summer and forage for herbs. That's how I got my Motherwort herbs and seeds that I'm growing indoors now.

I know right, most searches on psychoactive plants and mushrooms bring you right here where they're the most at home
I forage for herbs and mushrooms too, but it's too cold now. We actually have all kinds of cool stuff that grows in the wild here
What is motherwort good for again? I grew some out years and years ago, but I never consumed it.

That's cool... Where are you at? I'm in West Virginia in the Appalachians so we have all sorts of stuff also..
Motherwort is good for anxiety, depression, post-partum depression and other womanly child baring issues (hence the name.) It is related to Klip Dagga and Wild Dagga with similar effects, except smoking too much can cause respiratory arrest so I mostly use it in capsules. It is a bitter tea.

Yep, I reside in the state right to your West, Kentucky
What grow zone are you in? I would assume 7, or below. I'm in 7 and it's hell, so freezing cold and dark out right now, it's the pits!
Mother wort sounds good for me, because I do suffer form anxiety and depression. did you say it grows wild in your area? If so, I bet it grows here as well.

Yes, indeed it does. I found it along a bicycle path, growing in part shade. Early in the season it looks like highly detailed maple leaves, but later it looks like this...
If you find some you can get an 11" cutting and replant it in your yard. (I unfortunately, didn't know that at the time.) That's okay though, cause I got seeds later in the season. Yes, it is good for anxiety and depression and as I understand it gets built up in your system and gets even stronger after 1-2 weeks of use. I only got about 50 grams but I'm growing some indoors now. Klip dagga are giants and a bit stronger and smokable but you will not find that growing wild. I just bought the seeds pretty cheap though, I have 2 growing indoors and like 98 more seeds still! lol!
First pic is "common" motherwort,(there's a few different kinds) second is Klip dagga

Oh, we are Zone 6, and it is freezing up here. It's been in the 20's overnight. Not much left alive outside..

Funny you mention that, i was just wondering about that Salvia. I'll have to look into it. I already have a laundry list of stuff to grow next year. lol.

I bet it does grow here too. Can you recommend any good field guides to herbs? So, it's an adaptogen then? It takes repeated daily uses to start working.
But yeah, I have grown Klip dagga before several times, I just love the beautiful orange flower heads!
Zone 6,brrr, well you got it worse than I do! it has been in the 20's at night here too, but amazingly I still have a half full garden out. I have to cover it with sheets only when it dips below 30 degrees, but anything above that, my plants are just fine. Of course it's all greens and cold weather crops, because no amount of covering up, will allow me to grow tomatoes or peppers, haha!
