Dry Bagging Using Wood Shavings or Chips?
    #27061779 - 11/28/20 03:07 PM (3 years, 2 months ago)

Aloha everyone!
I got some donations of hardwood shavings from local woodworkers and I tried to dry bag it by weight like I do with HWFP and supplement, but there is way too much wood to water in the ratio. Does anyone have experience working with wood shavings or wood chips and dry bagging? Any recipes by weight or percentage would be extremely helpful. I use the 10-15lb bag size XLS-A...? I also steam sterilize at atm pressure for 18 hours in a steam tank.
This is for the production of oyster mushrooms, as well as Lions Mane.
Thank you!

You will have to figure out the ratio. It is not worth it in my opinion all that work when you can get over 30 5lb bags for $6. Too much work for no reward!!

The reason I say it is not worth it is that I use a zj-lcd-m flow meter. With the flow meter, it takes me about a minute to have my bags ready to go in the steamer. Time is your main cost in this business so anytime you can cut down on time you will save a lot of money.

For anyone looking at the zj-lcd-m flow meter. I would at least buy a 3/4 and 3/4 will still take about 10 to 15 seconds to fill your bag. But the benefit is you will have you water content right every time. Look in my signature for how to get the water content at the proper level. If you buy the zj-lcd-m flow meter I believe they are British standard pipe thread and you will need the kit...
