Need Shiitake strain advice for India! (63F to 90F) Avg 80F weather.
    #27059476 - 11/27/20 12:18 AM (3 years, 2 months ago)

Hi,
I hope you all doing great. I really need some advice here.
I'm from India and where I live, we have highest temperature of 90F in the summers. 80F is average most of the year. The mycology situation in India is very focused towards Oyster mushrooms, button m., milky m., paddy straw m. I'm not saying they are bad. In fact Paddy straw m. is very very tasty. But I really wish to grow shiitake throughout the year on hardwood sawdust with force fruiting method. Here we only have a very cold weather strain. Shiitake is still kind of new here.
Can you please suggest me any strain that I can grow throughout the year? Is Shiitake 75 a good candidate?
The winters have a minimum 63F. Maybe a different strain for this kind of temperature?
I'm feel really left out here. I always get advised to grow other mushrooms instead like oyster m., etc., but I already grow them. I hope to find an answer here. Shiitake is where my heart lies. Please help.
P.S.- I'm sorry for any grammar mistake. English is not my native language.

I would look at the Mycelia web page and see if there is a strain that fits your needs. You will have to look for Lentinula edodes strains on the left of the page at the link below and click on them then look on the page for the parameters that they should be grown in and match it up as close as you can. If you find one that will work just look for that strain. But I don't think you will find a strain that fruits in the 90's. I think the best you will find is around 70F.

mycelia's 3782 (edit) but I doubt it'll work.
grow on pasteurized straw, not sawdust.

You may have to consider seasonal winter shiitake. 3782 and 3790 are about the same. 3790 produces a little larger fruits.

Haywire I'm curious why you recommend straw? I watched one video of a guy doing straw, never saw the yields. Sawdust seems the standard.

in Spain and France there is a cluster of companies that produce pasteurized straw substrates for shiitake.
the strain used is 3782, not 3790 like previously stated. I keep mixing them up (I'll also edit the previous post.)

they have to spawn heavily to outrun any contaminants and 3782 is the one that thrives in the heat produced by the metabolism. but I think OP's range is way too hot for it anyway. 3782 is a prolific fruiter and to me has the best shiitake aroma. but quality (firmness and shape is inferior to sawdust grown shiitake)

The chinese imported blocks are now putting these companies out of business. they're flooding the market with cheap sawdust 'logs'. the quality is much better (shape and firmness) but yields are lower. however, with the shiitake becoming more popular, so has the demand for quality. people are willing to pay more for the mushroom and generally don't buy the pasteurized straw grown mushrooms anymore. it's a bit cynical though, because as I said before, 3782's aroma is much better than 3790. they don't look as good but considering flavour they're superior to me.

Thank you guys for your guidance. I'll definitely look into 3782 strain for the winter. I have good supply off straw too.
What do you think about warm weather strains like Night Velvet for the warmer months (atleast till 85F)?
https://www.fieldforest.net/product/Shiitake-Night-Velvet-Sawdust-Spawn/warm-weather-shiitake-sawdust-spawn-strains
Is it a good strain for indoor cultivation and it's response to force fruiting?
